Lindeman Lake is an excellent first-time destination for those wanting to experience the 'real wilderness' of British Columbia. The trail is well established and maintained and is nicely suited for younger hikers -- the kids from Jomarac5 started hiking to this lake when they were each only four years old.
You can reach the lake in less than an hour with plenty of rest stops on the way to admire the scenery. From the south end of the lake to the cache will take approximately 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. The hike is best between June and October but is usually accessible as early as mid April. This is not a walk in a suburban park -- although it's not a difficult hike by any means, this is genuine wilderness and as such should be treated with respect and care. You'll need proper hiking footwear and although the destination is quite popular and is fairly close to your vehicle, you should be prepared for any emergency wilderness circumstance. It's a good idea to carry a packsack with water, extra clothing, some food and basic survival equipment (first-aid kit, matches, flashlight, etc). Lindeman Lake is a very popular destination during the summer and many Scout and Girl Guide groups hike to it -- it's doubtful that you'll have the place to yourself if you go on a weekend during June, July and August. There are a few tent camping spots at either end of the lake if you want to make this an overnight destination, but bear in mind that there are no facilities of any kind -- you're roughing it here. If you're up to a more ambitious hike you can continue up the valley to Greendrop Lake. To get to the trailhead, take Highway 401 and use the Cultus Lake turnoff. Watch for a sign that points to Sardis and turn right onto Chilliwack Lake Road. Continue driving for approximately 38 km, towards Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. The trail begins at the old Post Creek Forest Services campsite. Park your car on the side of the road at N 49° 05.875 W 121° 27.502. The trailhead is at N 49° 06.042 W 121° 27.599 (there is a sign pointing to Lindeman and Greendrop Lakes). From the trailhead sign, the trail meanders slightly upwards for a short way through an old boulder slide before it becomes moderately steep. Just before the lake, the trail gets a bit steeper for a short ways and then levels off as you approach the lake. Once at the lake, you'll head along the west side and cross over a rockslide that has some wooden walkways that make the going much easier. There is only one route from the parking area to the cache so as long as you stay on the marked trail, there is little chance of getting lost on this hike. Depending on your fitness level, you'll need to allow 2.5 - 4 hours for the return trip from the parking area to the cache. Plan your hike to this cache so that you return to your vehicle long before sunset. This cache is not recommended for night caching. The cache is a 2.3 liter Lock and Lock container and is very well hidden under a man-made structure at the north end of the lake. Satellite reception near the cache is quite good with a completely clear view of the overhead sky. Accuracy on our Garmin Legend was 10 meters when placing the cache.
