Starting from Deep Cove, this is a fairly ambitious paddle to the top of Indian Arm. The journey will take you approximately 20 kilometers in each direction and you'll see some of the most spectacular scenery that is easily accessible on the coast of British Columbia. Be prepared to see curious seals, jellyfish, crabs, assorted fish, and other marine life from the comfort of your kayak.
The cache is located on the south side of Granite Falls near the very impressive public campground. There is no charge to use this campsite and spaces are available on a first-come basis. If all the groomed campsites are full, there is plenty of room in the common area to pitch a tent for the night. There is also another campground a few kilometers away at Bergs Landing which is on the west side of the arm near the south end of Croker Island. It is possible to paddle to this cache and back in a single day but it will make for a very long and tiring trip. At an average pace, it will take approximately four to five hours of paddling to reach Granite Falls from Deep Cove. The journey is best suited for an overnight stay. If you don't have your own kayak, they are available for rent at Deep Cove. On your way to Granite Falls be certain to stop and take a look at the incredibly beautiful Silver Falls located at N49 24.457 W122 53.102 -- you'll have to keep an eye out for the falls because it's easy to miss when travelling northward. Please note that there is no dock at the south area of Granite Falls and there is no bridge from the north day area to the south campground area. If you are visiting the cache with a power boat, you may not be able to access the south side of the falls if you are unable to run your boat up on the rocky beach. It is possible to cross over the outflow of the falls at low tide but you'll probably get your feet wet. The cache is a 2.3 liter Lock & Lock container and is under some old logs right near the base of a rock wall. A piece of wood is covering the cache but a small corner of the cache is visible. Please put the cache back the way that you found it. Please sign the logbook, trade fairly, and log what you've traded on the website -- we'd like to keep the quality of trade items high for this cache. |
