The insidious and deceitful Long John Silver was hired as a cook on the Hispaniola to accompany Captain Smollett to find the treasure that was buried by the notorious pirate Captain Flint. Captain Smollett later learned that Long John turned out not to be a cook but an evil, sneaky, clever, and dastardly pirate who was also hunting for Captain Flint's Treasure.

With the help of his band of rogues, Long John Silver had a plan to do away with Captain Smollett and all his men on the eve of reaching Treasure Island. But things didn't work out quite the way Long John Silver had planned...

And now you'll learn where Long John Silver disappeared to after stealing part of the treasure. Believe it or not, this island is the location where Long John Silver lived in exile until his death years after Captain Flint's treasure was found. In fact, if you explore the island a bit you'll find four large holes where Long John was attempting to bury his booty -- after four tries he gave up digging as he realized that this island is made entirely out of rock!

This cache hunt will take you to a small island in the charted waters of Indian Arm not far from nearby Deep Cove.

You will have to access Long John's island at the northwest end of the island (N49 20.482 W122 54.275) but beware -- the rocky beach all but disappears at high tide so make sure that you either tie your boat securely or drag it up the beach so that the incoming tide doesn't take it away while you're looking for the cache.

If you don't have your own boat, canoe and kayak rentals are available at Deep Cove. Small power boats may be able to access the beach but it is doubtful that larger boats will be able.

The cache is a 2.3 liter Lock & Lock container. It is hidden quite well under a group of fallen logs that have small cedar trees growing in and around them. As always, please place the cache back the same way that you found it.

Please sign the logbook, trade fairly, and log what you've traded on the website -- we'd like to keep the quality of trade items high for this cache. If you'd like to find out what the four holes on the island were really caused by, send us an e-mail.

I can't find how to e-mail you. In your Long John Silver report you make reference to being able to e-mail you. How do I do this?

I like the story you attached to "Night Bandit" island. I am trying not to give it away. I don't want to give away the true history regarding the Blue girl's best friend either.

I live on the water about 7 houses south of Deep Cove. I will explore and search for all of your Caches this summer. This weekend I am camping at Bergs and will search for a couple at the end of the Arm.
