The first thing that you'll see as you approach Thwaytes Landing is the original house that was built in 1927 by Captain Tom Thwaytes for his wife Anya, a Russian Princess. Nearby is the waterwheel shed that for 60 years housed the waterwheel generator that used water from Holmden Creek to provide electicity. On the shore above the house, there once was a chicken farm that they both ran. They would deliver the eggs by boat to places as far away as the Woodwards downtown store.

There is no shortage of interesting history on Indian Arm. Just south of Thwaytes Landing is Frames Landing where artist Statira Frame lived and her friend Emily Carr visited.

A little further south along the arm and just north of Deep Cove is Lone Rock Point -- the location for the popular TV series "Danger Bay" which was filmed from 1984 - 1989 (look for the log house on the small island). Locals frequently refer to the area by the TV show name.

Very close to the north is Best Point (historically known as Point Beautiful), between 1900 and 1910 it was the location of a house of ill repute that was frequented by work crews during the construction of the the Buntzen Power Stations. The Power Stations are visible directly across from Thwaytes Landing on the east shore of Indian Arm -- note the large pipes carrying the water from Buntzen Lake, 120 meters (400 ft) above.

At the top of the arm is the historic Wigwam Inn (currently owned by the Vancouver Yacht Club) that was once an illegal gambling casino and resort that was visited by many famous hollywood stars and such dignitaries as John D. Rockerfeller and John Jacob-Astor.

Thwaytes Landing is the half-way point between Deep Cove and the top of the arm and makes a nice destination for a day paddle, or for a break if you are continuing further up the arm. There are no roads and the only access is by water. There is a rock beach that is fine for putting in with kayaks and canoes (water shoes are recommended as barnacles are a plenty), some small power boats may be able to land at the beach. At a comfortable pace Thwaytes landing is about a two hour paddle from Deep Cove. Overnight camping is not permitted.

If you don't have your own boat, canoe and kayak rentals are available at Deep Cove.

The cache is a 1.0 liter Lock & Lock container and is hidden very well near a really nice little waterfall. As always, please place the cache back the same way that you found it.

Please sign the logbook, trade fairly, and log what you've traded on the website -- we'd like to keep the quality of trade items high for this cache.
