We replaced the cache in a new location that will remove the need to cross the creek, hence preserving the dam.
------
This cache is in the lesser used east side of Letchworth State Park. It is an army-green 50mm ammo box with a geocache stencil on it. We stocked it with various useful items for outdoor activities, plus some fun things for the kids (large and small).

The name for this cache site will become very obvious as you get near the site -- the beavers have been VERY busy here for quite some time! When you see it, you’ll wish you’d brought your camera. This is a great place to show the kids some spectacular examples of the work of nature's original engineers. We found this area while scouting out a hike, and realized it would be a wonderful spot for a cache so that others would see this really neat area. Wander up and down the creek edge for a couple hundred feet and you'll see several examples of varying sized dams.

Parking at 42 36.114N 77 59.166W will ensure that you can get out again, but adds 2 miles to the round trip distance, and makes for a nice bit of exercise (our cache name is “the Hikers”, after all). Parking further south at 42 35.600 N 77 59.468W reduces the work to a half mile bushwack through fairly open woods, but this is not always possible as this portion of road is "seasonal" -- for good reason! When wet, it could be very difficult to get out.
