| This cache is located in Oatka Creek Park in the town of Wheatland, near Scottsville, NY. It’s well off the main path down any of several well-worn deer trails, in a sort of valley or basin hidden between two ridges. The area is lightly wooded, with excellent satellite access. The area should be easy to reach on wide, mowed paths, but depending on the time of year there may be some wet areas on the deer trails. As in most parks in the area, you should be on the watch for poison ivy; the cache was placed in March, so with no foliage I wasn’t able to identify all the vegetation in the area, but some looked suspicious. The cache is a camouflage painted .50 caliber ammo can with black lettering and is fairly well concealed. It contains the usual goodies, some games, tools, Red Rose Tea ceramics, a “Teeny Beany”, and a slightly rude item the ten-year-old crowd will love. Of course, there’s the usual log book to record your visit as well. |

Open Log: Personal use only It was such a beautiful, warm, sunny day for this time of year. I wanted to get back here and try to finish up the caches I didn't do a few days ago so this one was first on my list. I arrived at the park about 11:30am and I could tell that other people were enjoying the park by the numerous vehicles parked near the lodge. I pretty well knew where I had to go so once I was within about 400ft, I found the best deer trail I could locate that was heading off in the direction I wanted to go, and bushwhacked my way to the cache area. I found the cache immediately and signed the log book. This was a really nice spot and I took my time here and explored the area on my way out. I took nothing and left nothing in the cache. Thanks for the nice cache! -Paleoman52-

Open Log: Non-commercial use only Owner barrington, with Mrs. B and Penny, visited the cache to replace a filled-up log book, and to check condition. I'd been aware from finder's reports that the cache is much more difficult to get to in some seasons than others, and based on our trek in, I've raised the difficulty levels from 1.5/2 to 3/3.

This cache marks the fourth of five we did in this area. We talked to a park official before heading towrds it. We rode our bikes as far as we could until we had to walk, sometimes crouch, towards the cache. The GPS took us directly to it. We traded a pair of sunglasses for a yo-yo. The way back was tough. We made our way out of the woods and biked our way out of the park. Nice hide... Nice park...

2nd of 4 finds today. Did this after Deer Crossing. Was going to come in the short way from Stewart Road. WRONG! After one look at the solid wall of grapevines, thought I'd better follow the suggested starting point. Many choices of paths to take. When I got close, I thought it was going to take a while to find. Vegitation was very thick. But guess I got lucky and spotted it very quickly even though it's well hidden. At cache GPS said 21 feet. But as I logged in it setteled down to 7 feet. Took/left nothing. Thanks for the hide. Now onto Gypsum Mine.

Open Log: Personal use only This was our second try today after finding your "Deer Crossing" cache earlier. We kept to the trail, but turned around after going too far. We had to stop and search for my 7 year old's sun glasses. Found them, but later lost the 15 month old's sun glasses. (See my log for your cache in Northampton, where we lost his shoe...) Oh well, if they're not clipped on, they're going to get lost. We got within 270 feet, but couldn't find a way through the thick stuff that was passable with the baby back pack. We found a possible approach in the end, but everyone was tired and cranky. We'll be back...

Open Log: Personal use only We were within 70 feet of the cache but couldn't get to it. We believe it is sitting in the middle of what is now a small pond. Looks like this area has been dry until recently, can see grass growing under the water. We walked all around the location and couldn't get any closer. We'll come back when the water recedes.

I had just done the Deer Crossing cache which was 4/10 of a mile from my car. I knew Grapevine was about 6/10 of a mile from my car, but was 8/10 of a mile from Deer Crossing. I decided to heck with it, and Issaquah Puppy and I headed in a straight line to Grapevine. The first 4/10 mile were bushwhacking. Then we got on to a trail which took us a ways, but then we got off of it as it was starting to lead us away. So more bushwhacking. After more trails, and bushwhacking, we found the cache. I used my GPS to guide to where I thought the road would be, and sure enough, we found the road, and walked back to our car.

Open Log: Personal use only Barrington, I think you may have been a rabbit in a past life. This hide, as were several of your others, perfect rabbit hang outs. I hope Penny and Mrs.B continue to follow you to these dense tough places. The cache is in perfect condition, we signed your log book, took or left nothing. Thank you for not making it too easy, we enjoy them all.
