(NOTE: 11-27-04)
39 18.400 82 18.993 This is the new home of the Temp Cache we placed today. The other cache is gone and that is really sad. No one would have just walked over that and if they did seeing it and how it was painted and well marked they would not have just walked away with it. The person(s) who took it knew what they did and that is a shame. The path going up to the caches was not made by the cachers. When you first went up the hill the trail went right. You had to go on up the hill to the left and behind a tree and under a pile of longs to get the cache. We will paint up another ammo box and replace it as soon as we can but till then we placed a clear plastic gallon sized cache in a new sport till we get the the new box set out. We will place the log in the new box. Thanks for all the support and we will leave this message up till we get the new box placed) So please Enjoy the moonville tunnel! The Spice Weasel's =================================================== Back in November 2003 we started out by the idea of placing a cache at the Moonville Tunnel. This tunnel has had a colorful past. It was built in the 1800's. We contacted ODNR about placing a ammo box. We promissed to keep this box at least 100 yards from the tunnel. Yavin painted the box for us a bright gold and painted a picture of the moonville tunnel on the side. The box is the coolest looking cache box any of us have ever seen. The Project was to be in Feburary 2004. As we headed out to place this box we had about 19 people in tow from all over Ohio and Kentucky. When we got to the Lake Hope area and headed back to the tunnel we were stopped by a lack of road. Yep, It got a little warm and rained and melted all the snow. This whole area was 8 feet under water. We took a group picture and said we would come back again. In May we were going to do it again. The day before we were to go. A ripping rain storm filled up the area again :O( Well we headed out on the 19th of June with two groups. The first group was going to place the cache and take in sites while the 2nd group showed up later that night to find the cache and see if there was really a ghost in the Moonville Tunnel. (Caching in the Dark) A total of 34 different people from 4 Geocaching clubs showed up from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Va to help in the placing of this cache over the months. We hope this becomes a cache that everyone wants to find and enjoy as much as we did in placing it. |

Found this one over the summer. I love the old RR and the history. You should check out the other tunnel nearby. Just as cool!

This sounds like a blast. I've done a little researching on the Moonville tunnel (and the ghost stories) since reading about the Moonville Project on the CACHE website. I plan on being there with a newbie from work who saw me researching the subject and is now very interested. Thanks for organizing this event Docman.
