Easy walk through the Arboretum with an opportunity to examine some of Evergreen flora.
This cache is located in the beautiful 127-acre Frelinghuysen Arboretum - where we found our first cache as a family on a rainy new years day 2003 (a fun cache by Orange and Jungle Green). This cache was placed with the help of my 5 yr. old son - so it's very kid friendly and perfect for a walk with the family. The final reach for this cache, however, is not suitable for children (although they can watch and enjoy the experience as well). There are events at the Arboretum and it's a wonderful place to visit in every season. For details you can check: http://parks.morris.nj.us/parks/frelarbmain.htm Hiders are asked to ensure the cache is closed well and securely stashed - hidden as well or better for the next seeker. The container is relatively small (smaller than an ammo box but larger than a typical micro) and has space for small trade items. Please be careful to avoid any specific references in the log which may ruin the experience for others - but it's fair to say this cache may be a bit of a stretch for some! Enjoy! |

I'm getting caught up with my NC's that I've found as GCs. This cache was personally recommended by a friend so I was looking forward to making the trip up here and visiting the arboretum and spending some time with the trees. Wow did I ever pick the right day! The cherry trees are in full bloom & everyone had their cameras out. It was an absolutely perfect day too which made this even better. After waiting out a few muggles I found the first stage after brief hunt. The second stage? Well, there's really only one place to hide it where the GPS was pointing me, right? Nice placement! After retrieving the cache but before I sign the log a few muggles strolled by and completely failed to notice me. Heh! Dropped in an Ike & took out a pirate coin that I'll put to good use. Signed the log & rehid the cache AS WELL OR BETTER as instructed, yessir, can-do, this is my kinda hide. :D TFTC!

Found this cache. Only owning a gps for less than 24 hrs, I've found my first cache. Not too easy but very fun trecking through the woods.

Parked in the Arboretum parking area and went for the first stage, which was only a few hundred feet away. After looking around for a bit, Pa Floopy spotted it. My GPS was reading around 50 feet there but it could be partly due to the hillside. Then we continued the bushwhack down to the trail. Took the trail and went the wrong way so we again bushwhacked across the snowy plateau and down again to the final location. Looked for some time but didn't see the cache. Then we met Team Skully & Mulder, who came in another way. Molly from Team Skully & Mulder spotted the cache first after the rest of the team did some experimental climbing. Took a travel bug. Thanks.
