Comments:

There are a few nice trails around this area that are enjoyable to traverse, so I will be setting out some multi-caches for everyone to experience in the next few weeks. No bathrooms or water available here, so you'll want to bring extra water along for this hike.
NOTE: Please remember the position of the cache and return it as close as possible. Oh, and be discrete...

Hoyt Loop
Welcome to Hoyt Park: the site of the annual Fourth of July Scripps Ranch Fun Run and Bike. We've lived in the community four years and have yet to participate in the event. Unfortunately, that happens to be the time of year we travel, so we are seldom around. Perhaps 2004...

The best parking is at the following coordinates. After that, you are free to walk or bike the route; neither will be easy. Although it is possible to drive much of the route, the cache does require a walk of about a quarter mile from the final waypoint. Whichever method you choose, I think you'll enjoy the scenery.

N 32° 54.333
W 117° 06.024
At this trail intersection, you'll find a couple of rather large cement cylindrical somethings sunk into the ground. On each of these is a blue number and a black number.
ABC = the first THREE digits of the black number (don't count 'B0')
DEFG = the first FOUR digits of the blue number
N 32° 54.G5A
W 117° 05.B0F
Next, you'll have a steep climb with an elevation gain of about 120 feet. Another sunken cylindrical something identical to the others has its own set of black and blue numbers.
ABCD = the first FOUR digits of the blue number
EFGH = the first FOUR digits of the black number
N 32° 54.CD0
W 117° 05.GH3
This leg takes you along some of the streets in this part of Scripps Ranch but leads you to one of the lesser known sections of trail in this area.

Although it is not easy to spot, this waypoint is at the trailhead located between two homes; you will want to follow this trail. But first, note the address of the house directly across the street from the trailhead.
ABCDE = address of house opposite trailhead
F = B + 2
G = A + F
N 32° 54.F0A
W 117° 06.23G
This short hike through the woods will lead you along another street to another trail. Your GPSR should lead you correctly along the appropriate trails.

The last bit of this leg ascends once again but not quite as steeply as the prior one. At the top, a light pole provides the clues for the coordinates of the cache.
ABCDE = the five digit number at the base of the light pole
F = A + C
G = B + E
N 32° 54.GGG
W 117° 06.FFD
The cache, which is a camouflaged ammo can about 12" x 4" x 7", is located about 15 feet or so off the trail. Very little bushwhacking is involved, but the cache shouldn't be too difficult to find. If you can't locate it within five minutes or so, please refer to the hint.

To return to your car, continue along this gentle, downward-sloping trail to the park using your GPS unit to guide you to the parking coordinates provided at the beginning.

IMPORTANT NOTE:You will find a cryptic note at the bottom of the inside front cover of the log books at each of these caches. Record these notes as well as the coordinates of the locations of the caches and refer to the cache A True Multi-Cache in Scripps Ranch for instructions on what to do with these cryptic notes and coordinates.

This is a toughie! It took me about 2.5 hours on foot, and I didn't find the cache. I also think that the clues are incorrect. Is that on purpose? I started at the parking spot that Shandon recommends, then walked to the first 2 cylindrical objects. From that point on, I was basically lost with the clues provided. Some of the problems could be due to inaccuracies in the GPS readings, but some are definitely not.

The first clue says that
ABC=the first THREE digits of the black number
DEFG=the first FOUR digits of the blue number

That means that G could be a 1 or a 2. So I treked along, and either way it led me to an inaccessible place. I then thought, that perhaps he got the colors backwards, and that seemed to help. Though those coordinates are still about 0.04 minutes too far North.

The second, clue calculated by the new cylinder, put me about .04 minutes too far South. Hmmm.

Using the address of the house, the calculated coordinates seem to be 0.12 minutes too far south.

Then I must have found the wrong light post, because the next coordinates are w-a-a-a-a-y off. If the number on the light post that I found represents ABCDE, then the calculation does not seem correct.

I did not find the cache! But I made it back to my car :-)
