Dusty Cache #4 - The Night Walk| This cache placement is approved by Jackson County Parks and Recreation. |
Please stay to the North of E. Drinkwater Road. South of the road is Private property.
Don't block the parking coordinates during the day.
I think that is how machinery accesses the fields there, for mowing, etc.
The ground is sloping at points; footing is loose rock and leaves once you clear the open field. It can be dry (October) and VERY wet and muddy (December) The entire path is on a horse trail or "dry" creek. You don't have to leave the "path" except for the last 10 feet. |

| Don't try this in daylight. You won't find it. The 'stealth' type of FireTack is designed to be invisible during the daytime. This should be easy to find in the dark. There is nothing devious about this one. It is a nice introduction to night caching. | You need a flashlight with enough batteries for up to an hour, even though the path is just over a quarter mile, each way. A two AA-cell battery flashlight is the minimum, and a two D-cell flashlight would be more than enough. I set it up with a one LED flashlight. (Don't use a 1,000,000 candlepower BFL. No need to disturb the neighbors or work on your tan.)
-
Your GPS will not help you find the cache, but you should leave it on, in "track" mode to find your way back out to your car. You CANNOT see many of the FireTacks on the way out. (Don't forget to waypoint your car.) - Go from the parking space to the Starting Point.(The posted coordinates for this cache.)
- At the Starting Point, shine your light to see a FireTack where you should enter the woods.
- Once you reach the first FireTack, look for the next one. Each tack is visible by flashlight from near the location of the previous tack. They will will start out being close to one another, then they will become much further apart. They will be from knee level to above eye level. They are VERY directional, so you should hold your light on your shoulder, next you your hear or eyes. Be sure to look in all directions if you don't see the next tack. It may be behind you, ..... or not. J
- The FireTacks are smaller than a dime, and are be placed on fence posts and dead trees that line the trail. I'll adjust them when leaves grow in, so let me know if they are getting overgrown, please.
- Follow from FireTack to FireTack until you reach the cache.
- The location of the cache is the only spot marked with more than one FireTack.
- The last leg is not straight ahead, to keep non-cachers from following the trail to the cache.
- The cache is a smaller ammo box (30 cal).
- Please rehide it in the same spot and cover it well. Right now it is uncovered. As the snow melts please cover with twigs, bark, etc.
| Along the path - you can see a second FireTack off in the distance.
 Old Fencepost
