This is our first geocache. We didn't leave a bunch of stuff in our cache for trade - instead we hope you take one of what is available and use it a little on the beach and in the area. Please sign and date our log and note where you are from. Remember this is Florida and in a natural habitat area - wear insect repellant and watch out for wildlife (i.e. snakes)! Please be kind to the surrounding vegatation. Bring your swim gear and even the kids or your fishing pole and a picnic and have some fun in the sun. Really nice early in the morning or just before sunset. Park opens 7:30 am to Sunset. You will see a lot of birds and maybe a dolphin or two. Located off of Commerce Boulevard in Port Tampa. Directions to the park from I-275 N or S, Tampa, FL. Take Westshore Boulevard exit and go south on Westshore Boulevard - you will cross 2 major roads (Kennedy/Hwy 60 and Gandy Boulevard), continue traveling south several miles until Westshore makes a big curve to the right - it then becomes Commerce Boulevard. Follow Commerce until it curves to the left (after Cheveron plant) - make a RIGHT over the railroad tracks (there is a brown sign on your left announcing Picnic Island). You will see a large silver dome in front of you - do not go straight - turn over the tracks. Follow road until you come to a ship yard and make a Left turn (you will see the signs for Picnic Island. Follow road and either park at the fishing pier or go on up to the park and park up there. Good luck and have FUN!!!! |
