Similar to the Cow Parade project (where decorated life-sized cow sculptures were placed on public display throughout various worldwide locations) Miles of Mules, is a public arts project where more than 150 decorated, life-sized fiberglass mules will be found roaming through five Pennsylvania Counties (in the vicinity of the Delaware & Lehigh Canals)

The Delaware & Lehigh Canals run through the Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Northampton, Lehigh, Carbon and Luzerne. It was here that anthracite coal was discovered, canals were built and iron was first poured. In the 19th Century mules played an important role in the regions growth by pulling mine cars and towing the canal boats/barges that transported the coal to the markets in New York and Philadelphia. Although this industry no longer exists the mule remains a symbol of this unique heritage.

The objective of this cache is to locate as many of the Miles Of Mules sculptures that are scattered through the Pennsylvanian counties.

The co-ordinates provided will lead you to "The Chairman Of The Barge", but he is not the only mule in the area.
To log a "find" you can either locate the "Chairman" or provide the co-ordinates for another of these creatures.
It would be appreciated if your logs would give a brief description of the mule so that if anyone else wishes to search for it, they can follow your footsteps.

*****PLEASE NOTE***************
As several of the Mules have either been auctioned, moved or stolen I have decided to expand this cache. A FIND can now be ANY EXAMPLE of this type of public art project.

Examples include:

Miles Of Mules, PA
Cow Parade, NYC
Pandamania, Washington DC,
Downtown Dino Days, Wilmington, Delaware
Tour of Turtles Tampa Bay, Florida
Pigs on Parade Seattle, Washington
The Trail of Painted Ponies, New Mexico
Lobster Manie-ia Rockland, Maine
Horse Mania, Lexington, Kentucky
Party Animals, Washington DC

So get out there and start searching!!!!!!!

The coords for one of the miles to mules is N 40° 20.670 W 075° 02.262. Another one is N 40° 19.786 W 075° 03.261. This is a really cool. When I was in Jacksonville, Fl they did the same thing but with mantees.

I found 5 painted cows in a room in the Harrisburg Train Station. I'm not sure whether they came from Harrisburg originally or not, since I couldn't find any information posted about them. You can see them from inside the station or from outside looking through the windows. Coordinates are:
N 40 degrees 15.721 W 76 degrees 52.695

I really enjoyed these mules when they were on display in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton and NE PA before they were auctioned off. At least one of them is still in Wilkes-Barre in front of the Osterhout Free Library at 71 S. Franklin St. This mule's name is "Working Mule" with paintings on it by Joan Schooley of mules working in the coal mines - very appropriate to NE PA. GPS coordinates are N 41 14.746 W 75 53.052.

Driving down Main Street in Yardley PA. As you pass by the Post Office you will see another of the mules. He is a baby blue in color with little yellow ducks painted all over. (In keeping with Yardley's well known reputation for being very friendly to it's resident duck population at Lake Afton & the Canal)

A day trip to New Hope & Lambertville. Just walking the streets & came across several of the mules. The Delaware Canal runs through New Hope so several sculptures have been located here. The Chairman was the third mule we spotted.

In Easton PA, Saturday Nov. 8 for an Olivia Newton-John concert at The State Theatre. Saw the following 4 mules in the vicinity of "The Circle" Didn't have our GPS with us so can't provide co-ordinates, but if anyone else is ever in that area then they should still hopefully be there & clearly visible. Mules were "A Mule To A View", "Craie-Ola".... near the Crayola factory, "Equinox" & "mule a La Mode"
