Lake Tahoe is a huge and stunning lake. We took a boat out on the water recently and had a wonderful time coursing over that vast expanse.
After locating the first waypoint, this cache requires about 10-15 miles of driving (biking is possible, but much more difficult) and about 2.5 miles of hiking (one way).
The initial waypoint is at a somewhat popular and somewhat well-known camp located in South Lake Tahoe. The prices aren't too unreasonable during the summer months, but you do have to book the sites by the week.
Still, it is a very pretty place to see. If you can outlast the summer, the early fall brings the cabins to more affordable prices and they become rentable by the day.
At the first waypoint, provided above, you'll find a post about twelve inches on each side and about four feet tall with an image of Lake Tahoe as well as a two-digit identifying number on two sides. |
| AB = the two-digit number
CD = a two-digit number generated by adding A and B together
|
| The coordinates of the second waypoint using the previous equates are |
| N 38° 57.CD8
W 120° 06.B9C
|
| This waypoint is located in a parking lot near the trailhead you'll next be taking. You should be able to determine which trail to follow by the name of this cache. Currently, there is a $3/day fee for parking here. Best to go early if you want to avoid crowds. Be sure to notice the many beautiful views on the hike to the cache! Use the following clues to generate the coordinates of the cache. |
| A = the number of bathrooms here
B = the number of handicap parking spaces here
C = A + B
D = A - B + 1

| N 38° 56.C7A
W 120° 07.B5D

| The cache is a standard camouflaged ammo box about 12" deep x 7" high x 4" wide. Inside is a log book, two pens, and some trade items. It is only about four feet off the trail and requires NO bushwhacking. Please do not trample the vegetation searching for the cache. If you don't see it relatively quickly (about five minutes), refer to the clue. |
