Locals call it "the Trail" but everyone else knows it as the Oatka Trail, a winding narrow road that follows Oatka creek on the north side from Mumford to Leroy nestled near the southwest corner of Monroe County. In the early years it was known as just the Creek Road. It was an Indian trail long before it knew the tread of horses and oxen of the early pioneers. It is now home to apple farms and pumpkin patches.

The cache is located near the NYS-DEC public fishing access site which as also known as the "Blue Hole" section on Oatka Creek famous among fly fishermen. Bring your fishing gear as the Oatka is a beautiful crystal-clear waterway holding mostly brown trout, which are mainly stocked fish with some holdovers. If you have the time, feel free to continue exploring the creek past the cache.

Cache container is a .30 cal. ammo box, dark green in color with white lettering identifying it as a Geocache. It has been tethered to it's location in case of rising water. Original cache contents include the usual goodies that should appeal to just about anyone. Please feel free to bring something to trade that you think might fit into the fishing theme of this cache. If you take something please leave something. It also contains the usual log book to record your visit and comments. Please try and return the cache the way you found it for the enjoyment of the next cachers.

This is my fourth hide...good luck, have fun, and don't forget the bug spray!!!

I really enjoyed the short hike back to this hide. The creek was really moving along pretty fast today. Nice hide in a great location. The only thing that spoiled this experience was some really loud gunshots coming from the other side of the creek. Apparantly some guys were sighting in their rifles at a shooting range over there. Once I located the cache I signed the log and left a "where's George" dollar and a gold colored bottle opener. Thanks for the nice cache! -Paleoman52-

Cool tree....Excellent creek.....Some fishermen arrived just after I re-placed the cache (just in time) or I would have given away the location (couldn't take it with me.....Nice hide

OK, so I feel stupid...

I couldn't find it the first time because, silly me, I was following my GPS units!

Went back, hell bent on finding this cache. This time, I found that the water had greatly subsided since my last visit.. But wait! My GPS units still have me in the wrong place, at least 50' off in the wrong direction...

Anyway, to make a long story even longer, I used some logical deductions and elimiations & by luck's chance I stumbled onto the cache - LOL.

Cache is still doing well; I signed the log - TNLN. Thanks again for the hide!

This was our third of five in the area. We rode our bikes to the area of the cache. We had to back-track and realized we had passed right by it! We can see what it meant when the water levels rise. We traded a hotwheel ripper for tic-tac's. Nice hide-great spot!!!

Stopped by the cache for regular maintenance and found it to be in great shape. Found available materials to use to better conceal the cache. Dropped off two WG$ bills.

What a beautiful day for caching in January 62 degrees, who’d have thunk it? Good coords took me straight to the cache for a real quick and easy find. Nice hiding spot. Two fisherman on the creek and 2 more in the parking spot ready to head for the creek. Thanks for the nice cache and a reason to be out enjoying this beautiful day.

There were lots of gunshots across the creek when I found this.

Took nothing, Left nothing.

I saw several pheasants on the way out - at least two cocks and one hen.

Nice hide.
