Nice walk in the woods. Easy find. TNLN/SL

Did this one today with my lil sister and my cousin. Hiked about a quarter mile into the woods to get to it. Coords for me were off by about 50 feet as well. It's still there, in good shape. The area isn't bad to get to this time of year, but I shudder to think about it in the summer...

Just came from archery hunting land closeby and decided to do the three in this park. This was the third, found it around 12 noon . TNLNSL. Tough Hide co'ords off a bit. My unit said ~50' but then again I was getting a lot of bounce ! Spooked up a nice 6 pointer ( Where was he when I had my bow ? ) Oh well another day ! Nice Hide excellent location.....

This was my first Geocaching experience, aided by Shilfiell, an experienced cacher. An avid hiker, I'm in Northhampton park exploring all the time and didn't know such treasures existed! My two dogs, Rocket (JRT) and Bekka (BC) joined us. I hope to get the hang of using a GPs and do many more.
It was a beautiful fall day, with colors at peak!

This was a terrible day for caching, I think I was out of my mind doing this. Rain, heavy clouds, and fog aside we headed off down the trail! Found the cache at 8pm! The satts were barely there, but eventually it did get a lock and bring us to the obvious area where the cache would be. It was so dark I couldnt even see the cache, and of course we had no flashlights. I did remember my camera though, so I pointed it where I thought the cache might be, and saw it when the flash went off! Problem solving with that one! Couldn't really see to trade anything, did take the travel bug though. There were two log books, and there were recent dates on both of them (within days).. So the owner might want to remove the one they don't want written in. The trail there was not that hard to follow, but going back out in complete darkness with no lights did up the difficulty. The satts were getting worse, we coudln't find the trail, and the only light we had to shine was the camera! (The red eye reducer actually worked pretty well as a light!) After wandering in a big circle, I managed to get a 2D sat lock and find our way back out. The darkness really made me lose sense of where I was :-( Anyway... thanks for the hide! And make sure to bring a flashlight if you choose to cache in the evening!

Nice!! We definately took the 'scenic' trail. Strange being on the sledding hill without snow! We've walked up that hill many times dragging a sled! Going in, horse shoe prints on the muddy trail and we also startled a doe - or she starlted us. Coming out, we met one of the horses who belonged to the prints - CJ -a beautiful gelding - he and his rider were walking the trail just yesterday. Picked up Oluv TB and the last geode, signed the Log, left gold dollar. Thank you!! Team Durant

I got muddy on this one! Nice walk, though, even though I didn't spot any wildlife. The cache is quite full!

Had a lot of fun with my girl and dog on this one. Ended up taking the hard route I believe but it was an awesome day. Cache was in good shape and we took nothing and left nothing. Thanks for the hunt.

Nice hike back to the cache. Loved it with the yellow and orange leaves crunching under my feet. Used some of the conventional trails, but then started hiking as the crow flies. Spotted cache as I was walking up to it. Took peace pipe & Geocoin; left some other stuff of equal value. Explored the farm on the way to the car. And I'll have to come back for Christmas to see the lights.

I got to this one at dusk - I forgot how quick it gets dark this time of year.

The cache is in great shape in a very quiet part of the park. I love these that are off a trail in open woods.

I took some geodes and a couple pretty stones from another bag for my daughter and left a stone indian pipe to stick with the mineral theme of the items I took.

Is there anything more exciting than turning on the backlight on the GPSr in a strange area at dark and noticing that the sats have deserted you? :>)

Another fun hike in beautiful hardwoods.

Reports of moisture in the cache prompted us to give it a "freshening up" visit. We found it in not bad shape, but a lot of the items, especially plush toys and paper, were pretty musty. We salvaged what could be salvaged, put loose items in zipper plastic bags, and put it all in a new box (the old one will be repainted and recycled into a new cache). We added several bags of Keokuk geodes and a few other items, and a new log book.

We took away a half a boxful of spoiled items and, frankly, just plain junk that had been left in the cache. I'd like to suggest (for any cache, not just this one) that:

Any item left should be of similar value to the one taken. A Happy Meal toy or AOL CD will have little appeal for the next visitors.

Anything moisture-sensitive (paper, plush, anything that will absorb moisture or can mildew) should be sealed in a zipper plastic bag.

No food items (candy, energy bars, etc.) should be left in a cache. it can spoil, can draw animals, and you'd have to be pretty hungry to eat something that had been in a cache in the woods for months.

Found this one via a bushwack route and the rose bushes found me along the way. It is a nice quiet part of the park and I thought I was moving in on a cacher but they must of been out for a hike and kept going.
Took and left nothing except our sticker.

Nice hide in a nice park. Left costers, key chain candy and neckless and took the dog. Got a little wet but seems like in many of the cache areas things still haven`t dried out from the rain we got last week.
Thanks for the mini adventure and getting me out to smell the flowers. Hope to see you at the Navicache.com picnic in Seneca Park.

Found this back in March but forgot to post the find. The little geodes were really neat - took just 1 to see what was inside. Can't remember what we left by now.

Found this one at 5pm. It was floating in a deep puddle at its coordinates. Moved it 2 feet up to dry ground. We found an easier route in than others noted earlier. However, the ground is very wet. Took nothing left nothing.

Found it!! Took two of our sons on this one and approached it from the west (oops!) so we had to find a place to ford the creek (managed to keep everyone dry!) Our 10 year old was the first to spot it - his first trip out too!! Beautiful area and great location...thanks!!

Second of three caches for our family today! What great weather for geocaching! I decided to take the family out today to enjoy the weather & go geocaching before the weather gets bad again. Had to get the wife away from her college studies so we could have some good family time. She didn't need much convincing ...

Anyway, we got a good start on our mud baths from our first cache site at Hawthorn, so we added to our mud by trudging through the farmer's field and then farther onward over the small creek (I don't think anyone has figured out how to get across it easily). We actually made it across without anyone getting very wet at all (try that with 4 kids ages 9, 8, 5, and 3).

Once we got across the creek, it was all downhill (after climbing up the small hill on the other side of the creek ). We started back on the hunt once on the other side & ran into BANJO and his clan. Had a good chat with them & they were on their way back... Looks like they made it over the creek without too many problems. The dad looked like he had his hands full with a 14-month old little one in his backpack. I was hoping that he didn't fall into the creek!

Anyway, once they were gone, we found the cache without any problems, but we were pretty much on top of it by now. We did the usual cache swap & were on our way to hit NORTHHAMPTON CACHE across the street.

Thanks for the great adventure! Didn't expect to go bushwhacking that much today, but had a great time doing it... When else do small kids get the opportunity to tromp through the mud with parents permission! We had a blast, but we would suggest a 3-star rating for terrain for this cache; I think it deserves it!

Beatiful day, almost 50 °F - had to get out to go caching... Started between 2:15 - 2:30. Walked down the sledding hill. We had fun alternately saying to each other, "I got one sock wet, I got the sock wet". Started to go down the right side of the farmer's field but decided to go left to the trail. Well, the trail round awound to the northeast, until we reached the creek. At this point we saw another family, I guessed they were out caching but don't know for sure. We back-tracked back to the trail and climbed along the creek until we came to back to the east end of the farmer's field (so much for short cuts). We walked up and down the side of the hill on the west side of the creek, looking for a way across. Several run-ins with wild rose bushes. Finally my 6 year old crossed on his hands and knees over a large log. I crossed a smaller log with a branch at chest height for balance (I had a 14 month old in a back pack) and my wife followed. As soon as we got to the other side, the GPS gives me a "low battery warning". We were within .15 miles so I wasn't going to give up. I shut the thing off and we walked in the correct direction. When the readings were in feet, I turned the GPS back on and we moved in closer. Found the cache easily after circling around once (I suspect we lost a few sats). Now 3:30. Took a bag of marbles and left a candle. Very well-stocked cache. Signed the log and noted that we were the 2nd ones today. We hurried to replace the box as others were approaching from about 100 feet away. I could tell they were fellow cachers because the father had his arm extended carrying a bright yellow e-trex. Kidding, I said "hey, you're cheating" as they had seen us leave the hide, but it was a gimme if they had made it this far. Had a nice talk with this family, with four kids, as muddy and wet as we were. Told them that they were the third here today. We hiked back across the creek as we had come and then up the south side of the farmer's field. Very muddy. Got to the car and stipped off our boots. 14 month old was asleep but at some point had lost one of his shoes. Mom will have to buy another pair tomorrow. That was the only downside to what has to be, by far, our most enjoyable find. Thanks so much. I still wonder what the secret to crossing the creek is...

Ok so this was an adventure that we won't soon forget. The lot of us; Sweety gal, Eversure, butterfly girl, fearless leader, Foo the wonder dog and me, DxChallenged, headed out from The Northampton cache. I figured the terrain would be only slightly different from that cache...Not quite. We encountered all kinds of differences, sliding down the muck on the melted sledding hill, gliding on mini glaciers in the trenched field, puddeling in snow run off, slipping on half melted foiliage, testing our hiking boots to see how water proof they were (mine aren't) and using our pomeranian like a tea bag each time she got down........Wow was that fun!!! Eversure and Fearless scoped out and helped the rest of us near the end of the trail but it wasn't until we went back that the real fun happened....But back to the cache...Eversure scouted ahead once we made it past the water peril. He found the cache. It was in great shape and well stocked. We took a whistle, mini seal and american paper plane. Left a feather mask (mardigras type), a Scooby doo, and a rather large pikachu. Usually we find a better way out than in. But today I directed the tribe out, I always seem the pick the wrong direction (hence my name) Eventually we had to cross the peril even though this was much worse than the first crossing....Fearless safely secured Foo on the other side of the peril where she stood barking and shaking. Butterfly was carried over the peril by her Daddy (I wish I would have taken a picture, It was one of those touch your heart moments), fearless held a log in place for me to trudge on over the deepest peril and then he attempted to direct sweety..who didn't quite go that way...was rescuded by her dad from a dowsing from the peril...and fearless, the one who kept the rest of us dry, ended up with a wet leg...This is way better than a theme park!! DxChallenged

Another very nice cache, Barrington. Nice trail back & a very nice area. Spooked 6 deer while on my way back. Early Monday morning & about 50 degrees out. Not bad for the end of January in Rochester.Found the cache no problem. Took some bouncing balls & left a hikers emergency whistle. Signed the log book. Second of your caches I got this morning, & once again, you started my week off in style. Thanks. --Gimpy--

I thought I would be first, but a couple of people found it before me. I don't know if I took one of the paths that the cacher had planned. I had to cross a frozen over creek. I wasn't sure how thick the ice was, so I had to wander along the creek till I found a place to cross. Found the cache without too much difficulty. Thanks for a great hide!

I went with caron on this cache as you can see from her posting above. Very nice location for placing a container. We both had a great time looking for this as the snow was not a bother at all when we went. Very quiet in the woods and you can hear a pin drop (When Caron wasn't talking)
Like Caron says... She found it first, but when you have a Mother-In-Law that takes your GPSR from you and throws it as far as she can so you can't find it before she does, these things tend to happen. We both signed the logbook and I traded a package of your Geodes for a "Wheres George" bill. Thanks for the winter fun and hope to do more like this!
I think those "Geode" thingys are pretty cool! but they sure are tough to bite into! I added a picture with this posting so you can see what they look like.

QUINN AND I WENT AFTER THIS ONE AROUND 2 THIS AFTERNOON,HE TOOK THE MAGELLAN AND I TOOK MY GARMIN.
ONE OF US WALKED RIGHT TO THE CACHE, THE OTHER WENT OUT IN A BIG LOOP.
I TOOK NOTHING BECAUSE I LEFT MY WHERESGEORGE DOLLARS IN THE TRUCK.
IT WAS A NICE WALK AND A GOOD DAY TO DO IT.
