Lydiard Park is 260 acres of 18th centuary parkland within easy reach of Junction 16 of the M4. It is one of Wiltshires smaller stately homes and visitors are allowed access to the house. The Visitor centre by the main car park (N51 33.608 W1 51.312) has exhibitions and a cafe. St Mary's Church is one of Englands finest small churches, richly packed with monuments to the St John Family. If closed the key can be obtained from the house. For younger visitors there is a large woodland adventure playground, ducks to feed and several woodland walks. The cache is hidden not far from the main carpark, but may be difficult for those with children as you will have to walk past the play area and the ducks at the duck pond (always fun to feed them). It's a favorite spot on Sundays, but the cache is far enough around the corner that you shouldn't be seen. If you walk down the path until you reach the bridge you've gone too far. The cache is mostly for children containing: A lego racer, a tennis ball, two dolphin items, a springy keyring, one dollar bill (from the Avebury cache), an AM/FM radio (taken from Gloucester cache). Plus 39 shot disposable camera and notebook. |
