Winter, Early spring and late fall make this a bit tougher, as you will have to walk farther to get to ground zero.

This cache was brought up recently as the oldest in Monroe County. After having been through most of the park in search of other geocaches, I couldn't pass up the chance to search for this piece of history!

There is nothing like searching for a cache that hasn't been visited in 19 months on an 18 degree day after 6-8 inches of new snow. :)

The walk to the search area was beautiful. The new snow was clinging to the trees and there were few prints in the snow. The cold was a bit of a challenge, but moreso because I kept taking off my glove to take pictures.

After finally arriving at ground zero, the search was maddening because of the nooks, crannies and heavy snow layer. Just as I was about to lose the last of the feeling in my hands from cold and call it an adventure, the cache revealed itself. It took some work to retrieve it from its long slumber, but it was worth the effort. I just wish the cold had not prevented me from enjoying the time capsule (log book) more.

This will be a great spot to revist as the weather warms up.

Excellent hiding place! My GPS jumped aroumd a bit - maybe because of the clouds. Took yo-yo - left magic towel.

Cache is in good shape. We picked a good parking spot by luck. Decided to explore the trails around the water after finding the cache. Really is nice here. Thanks for the cache!

Wow ... nice to see that this really old cache is still in business. And it's in such good shape too - the logbook is still pristine, the container is clean and dry. It's surprising after all these years that nobody has muggled it yet, as it's not too far off the beaten path.

I stopped here first before an evening of caching at the park. Wouldn't you know it, but there was a couple picknicking not more than 50 ft from the cache. There was no way I could find it that way.

Instead, I hiked down the road and did two other nearby caches, and returned here again. Rats! The couple was still there. Don't they have lives? Shouldn't they be out caching or something?

I drove to another nearby multicache, hoping it would give me enough time to come back here again.

After finding Duck, Duck, Goose I came back. Great - the cars that were here before are gone, and so are the people. It didn't take more than a minute or two of poking with my hiking stick to hear the thud of an ammo can.

It would be really nice if you listed this on geocaching.com again. Maybe not all your caches, but this is such a historical cache for the area, it would be nice to have the newer cachers (like myself ... am I still new?) find some of the older ones.

On a mission to find the *real* oldest active cache in Rochester today. Wanted to bring Kahuna's Time Capsule TB to visit it.

Lived in Rochester all my life, but never been to any part of Durand-Eastman outside the waterfront. Thanks for bringing me to this cool place. Parked over on Zoo Road and walked over. Found cache easily. Can't believe it has survived for so long. It was fun to read some of the early log entries. I especially enjoyed one of the early ones written by a crew member at a local TV station which did a segment on caching back in 2001.

This was my first Navicache-only cache and I think I'm hooked. (I did two others in the park today as well.)

Didn't feel that I could leave the TB here as it is a gc.com TB, so I left it at a nearby gc.com cache -- Pat's Lake.

A nice** unexpected lesson** in today’s hunts that I observed, in and around Durand!
Seems that the ***Navicache Only*** cache listings, don’t degrade as quickly as on the other side. Caches are well placed, rated more accurately, and returned to their proper position. No food or liquid items, including those crappie wedding bubble bottles that seem to leak on everything. It’s too bad, that people can’t take lessons from this site on what and how caching should be.

So nice to find the old historic caches! I looked up the old archived listing on gc.com, and if my hexidecimal to decimal conversion is correct, this is cache number 589 in the world. Pretty impressive, as there are over 147,000 as of this date. There are TONS of entries in the paper log, I'm guessing many people have found this cache during the two events staged 500 ft. away, and never joined navicache.com Oh well, their loss. This cache was loaded with some decent trade items, but I TNLN. Thanks for the cache, which is quite the hike in the winter.

Was in the park looking for another cache when I dicided to do this one instead. Found it in its very well hidden spot. Was just starting to snow when I signed the log book but I beat the storm home.

Very nice hide in a very nice area. Travelling the area wasn't difficult, but the 100% humidity after the afternoon's rain (not to mention leaf drip) left me soaked though. Took nothing, left nothing, tried to sign the log. (Sorry about leaving the page damp.)

This one is a lot more difficult if you start with the wrong coordinates! Mis-typed one by .030 and that led to an extra bit of hillclimbing and general fun times. :) We were the first to the cache today, though, and so traded the Spidey light for the inflatable beach ball with provided extra fun on our subsequent travels. Thanks for the hide, we liked this spot!

Well, it was a cold day (teens) but it felt warm snowshoeing throught the hills and dales of Durand Eastman. Lake was frozen good, several inches, a few ice fisherman. Lots of skiiers. And two feet of snow! It was wonderful! Took by buddy Dominator on this hike with his new Garmin he got for Christmas. We had little difficulty finding the spot, but had a little more trouble digging in two feet of snow. I really just got lucky and hit it with my walking stick. Great cache, great location, great goodies. We took the Rambo dogtags and the signature item by the Fare (Face?), and left some pyrite, round tuit, and a frog. Thanks Quinn for getting it all started here. grr.....jackbear.

This was a tough one to find, well hidden ... We got to the general area OK but it took us a long time to find it. Cheryl persisted in the one specific area that she thought it might be hidden in, and eventually came up with it. We took a "Hot Wheels" type car, and left a music CD of a local classic rock band.

Since this was the first cache placed in the Rochester area, we had to go after this one. We had planned on finding this one while at the picnic, but spent a little too much time looking for the event cache. Very scenic overlooks of the area and saw a few deer in the process as an added bonus. TN/LN. Thanks for the hunt.

We joined up with Seven-ups while at the geocaching picnic and decided to hit a few caches. The kids sure enjoy the hilly ones. This was a fun hide. Thanks for the cache. Nana & Papa (papac2)

Walked over from Zoo Road after failing to find another cache (D+D1). Amazing how tough caching gets when leaves have dropped from the trees, a new challange for us since we started caching in May. Found this one at 3PM, nice hide and enjoyed the 45 degree November walk w/ my 2 sons. Took pasta fork; left dice, WG$ and lei.

After whipping off the other nearby cache so quickly we actually spent more time on this one the rainy weather had the GPS jumping quite a bit. Took nothing as we don't trade in junk.

This was a nice break between Durand Discovery and the Leprechaun (still haven't found that one). Took only a FL Trail brochure. Wish I had met everyone at the picnic, but I was just getting started. (Next time!).

A short walk and an easy find in wonderful weather and surroundings. Took purple-snouted green pig and left deck of cards. Dancing Lady came as well.

Great Cachers Get-together. A real joy to place a face to so many names I've read in logs. Cachers are special and a great group of people. Remind me to never try on Roadkills hat again. This was a nice find and just added more fun to the occasion. Mother of Rocky

found this when we where at the get togather. but coun't find the one i realy wanted to find but then we cain't find them all. had a great time at the picnic it was nice to meet and chat with the other cachers.

Found this one while attending the Navicache picnic; while Hinge had everyone searching for the Leprachaun! Wasn't far at all! Took a little trip of my own on a slippery log! Owwww!

Didn't bring anything to trade, so took nothing and signed the log. Coordinates were right on the nose!

Great day for geocaching - sunny, just warm enough, and the honeysuckle is in bloom all over the park so everything is very fragrant. Thanks for a great time!

Removed the camera (second) from this cache to have the pictures developed and added to the site. Left a couple George bills and some added items to help spruce it up some.
I will place another camera in the cache soon!

Found this one at 10:20 am. Swapped a Where's George. Lots of maintenance crews out. Had to "sneak" over to this one. We have never been in this area of the park, really enjoyed the hike.

had a nice quiet walk along the water... i did pass one other person who was peculiarly well dress for the trails..trails are a little wet and slippery in some places but nothing terrible. took the M&M Guy Hitcher..and signed the log.. contemplated how long it must take Melissa Long straighten her hair in the morning?..

Quinn, This was a nice location, overview and all. It was 35 deg./ sunny with 1-2 in. of snow cover. The road was closed into the park area, but a nice hike in. I think if the road was open I could have driven to within 200 ft. of the cache. The cache still looks good after all this time and visits - most logins I've seen. I dropped off a Hitch Hiker - the M&M Guy, a wheresgeorge $1, and a keychain flashlight. I took a 'swiss army' type knife. Strangly enough, I ran into Quinn at my next cache trip in Ellison Park in the PM.

Found cache in late afternoon. Parked a good distance away so made quite a hike of it.Very icy and slippery conditions. Cache is in good condition. Good spot.

My first cache ever. I have a new garin vista. this was a great way to get out and use it. Nice spot. had a great time.

I parked on Zoo rd, and hiked to cache without trouble. I thought it was interesting that near cache looked like a road, but I am not sure if it was a service road, or a public road. I left a Glidden Paint CDROM, and took a Wheres George.

Also exchanged dollar bills (mine were marked with WheresGeorge.com for free tracking). I cleaned up the Cache which was looking like a teepee of obviously stacked sticks. Left the park for Summerville's Club House bar & their unique garlic parmesean wings (OK, the draughts were $0.75). Thanks for the walk, Quinn!

I found the cache at 9:00AM on my way to work. Once again I walked within 3 feet of the cache box. After I reversed my direction it became obvious. I snapped a picture, took nothing and left a Black and Decker padlock.

This was our first find. It gave us a good opportunity to start geocaching. Road Kill is a good teacher.

Nice spot, but our foursome desended on it like vultures at an elk funeral. Traded in four splash bombs and four AA batteries for a power stone, ball and trivia calender. This one is great for the first time GPS user. I'd give it a 1 for difficulty and 1 for terrain.
