This is where it all began. On May 3, 2000, a five-gallon bucket was placed at this very spot by Dave Ulmer, containing Delorme Topo USA software, videos, books, food, money and a slingshot. The coordinates were then listed on the Internet, and modern-day Geocaching was born. Although the original bucket is no longer around, we recognize the importance of that event which happened here and dedicate this ORIGINAL STASH TRIBUTE PLAQUE on behalf of geocachers everywhere. Keeping with tradition, there IS a logbook to sign at this site. It's RIGHT there and very easy to get at. Do not try to pry up or move the Plaque at all to find it. Thanks go out to Lance Christensen and the Port Blakely Tree Farms, whose land this is located on. Without their cooperation, this would not have been possible. Please continue to show respect to their property while visiting. Logging this one a bit late. I went down to find the plaque and other assorted caches in the area. Fun to make this my first Navicache find! Too bad I was two years late to get the Moun10Bike Coin :)

17:30 - We saved this one for our 100th cache find. We think we saw some brand new cachers leaving the site (What The Cache) as we arrived. Many thanks to Dave Ulmer for starting this wonderful sport.

Visiting from Rochester, NY. Garmin III+ read 35 feet, but stash is obvious at roadside behind the log. Big thanks to the godfather, Dave Ulmer.

Find #47 of 54 today, #47 of 111 for me on the Portland Cache Machine, and #67 of 138 on my trip to Portland
I was one of the contributors to the plaque and was glad to finally make it down here to see it in person. I had visited this spot before the plaque was placed and thought that the 5-gallon bucket-sized depression that I found here before was a little depressing. This tribute is more like it! I'm also glad that the issues that hit this cache over the weekend have been resolved and that this cache is active once more.

I found it interesting that there are now two logbooks in the cache. Initially we signed the one on top of the plaque, but then I remembered that early logs of the cache indicated that the logbook was a bit tricky to find. That led me to examine things again while others were searching for Un-Original. Aha! There was the "real" logbook (which must be the one that ponyryder recently added)! It was void of signatures and I was happy to be the first to sign it. I was also honored to be able to leave one of my Moun10Bike Geocoins as this Holy Mecca of Geocaching!

I can�t imagine why Dave Ulmer would pick this particular spot to place the first geocache but I certainly appreciate that we have a beautiful plaque to commemorate that historical activity. Signed the log, took nothing and left my signature card. Thanks for the good time Team 360 and also for placing the plaque for all to see.
