In the town of Gruene--pronounced Green.

These coordinates will lead you to a historical marker describing this as the oldest dance hall in Texas. Many famous country music artists have played here such as Jerry Jeff Walker, Clint Black and Willie Nelson.
You can spend the whole day in this picturesque little town. Lots to see and do. The Guadalupe river is just down the hill, and if you stay until the evening, you can line dance all night long.
If you have time, ask one of the locals for directions to the River Road Ice House ( forgot to get the coords--DUH!)
and take the 12 mile drive to the tiny town of Sattler.
This area suffered severe devastation in the July 2002 flood. You will be amazed at the damage that is still in evidence. Some people have decided to rebuild, but have built their houses on stilts. Others have just left their collapsed houses and gone elsewhere.
To get credit for this cache, email me the answer to this question-who built the famous dance hall in Gruene?
For those of you interested in the history of Texas dance halls, there is a new museum just a few doors down that has exhibits on the history/culture/music of famous Texas dance halls. It opened in May 2003.

Nice town, I'll have to come back when I have more time and look around more.

I originally found this one on one of my many trips back and forth to SA this summer (July 25th) - just wanting to update my logs. Thanks for the great stop - I love this town. wish I were here more often!
