Within the Grand View Nature Preserve. Terrain is rated a 2.0 because the sand can be hard to walk on sometimes.
This cache has been relocated! The cache used to be a short walk down the beach, but Isabel destroyed the dunes and its hiding place. It is now about .2 miles away from its original location. It is the original container with the original logbook that we retrieved prior to Isabel. If you found the original cache, please feel free to find this one and log the find again! This cache lives up to its name. This trail takes you to the water! There are warning signs for motor vehicles that say, “Keep off trails and dunes. Police enforced”. This area is for pedestrians only (also stated on another sign) so please obey the signs. The vehicle gate is usually closed and locked. Pedestrians can walk through beside it. Take time to read the information boards posted along the rocky trail to learn more about the area. The Boy Scouts have adopted this area to keep clean and they do a great job but lets give them a hand with CITO! Stay on the beach until you get close. Please try not to bushwack. It closes at sunset. I don’t want to spoil the excitement of getting there so if you need detailed driving directions go to http://users.erols.com/stearns1/ and look under Hampton. You may find information about the 500-acre preserve at http://www.dgif.state.va.us/wildlife/vbwt/site.asp?site=CLP13&loop=CLP. You can park at the entrance on the side of the road until sunset around the following coordinates: N 37º 04.717 W 76º 16.656 Hopefully you will find some good cache “treasures”. This cache started off with a small multifunction tool, a box of 24 Crayola Crayons, a dual power calculator, a yo-yo, a GEO (Geocaching.com) window sticker, sticky notes, a couple flag pins, silly putty, a deck of America’s Most Wanted playing cards, a flashlight with keychain, a bead necklace, 2 geocaching buttons (pretty cool), bug spray (please use what you need and put back), a camera (please take a picture if you would like and put back), a Where’s George $, and Chuckie The Rugrat Travel Bug! It is in a clear Rubbermaid container with a white lid. We hope you enjoy this cache! |

Open Log: Personal use only This was a fun find. I took a cousin and she actually found it. The bearing from the lighthouse was perfect. Swapped TBs. Saw DognRoo but didn't recognise them as cachers, since they didn't carry their GPS into the water during their swim break.

We've been here a couple of times before there were any caches so we thought it was time to come back. We brought 2 new caching converts with us and hope that they got hooked! We left a wheresgeorge.com $1 and took a caribiner watch clip.

The Grand View Cache is back up and running! However Isabel washed away all the dunes and the cache's original hiding place. It is now located about .2 miles from its original place. If you found it prior to Isabel, please feel free to find it and log it again. It is definitely a new adventure! The cordinates have been updated to reflect its new location.

The GrandView Cache has been rescued from Hurricane Isabel and is on high dry ground! The cache is temporarily disabled until all is well at which time we will put it back out again. We didn't want Izzy to relocate it! Thanks for everyone who has visited it and taken such good care of it.

Open Log: Personal use only Second stop of the day before the picnic. Parked at the recommended parking area. Took a walk on the path to the beach. It was a nice walk, marred only by the presence of dog poop so you have to watch where you step. Once I got to the area, it was a quick find as a bit of it was showing. Thanks.
