| The cache is a .30 cal ammo can, painted green with "Geocache" stenciled on the sides in brown. Contents include the usual log book, some small hand tools, collectibles, odds and ends, and also contains some pretty big money. It's located in the town of Chili (near the Riga border) in Black Creek Park, near the north end. The cache is within 40 feet of the trail, down a well used deer track. The terrain is easy, the trails are mostly wide and grassy, and slopes are gentle; in the winter the cache can be reached on skis. One caution, the cache is placed under a very thorny hawthorn tree, so be careful not to get scratched or punctured while retrieving it. |

Open Log: Personal use only Ok, now it's getting tricky. It was time for the youngest to lead us. There was slight rebellion amoung the troups as we took the wrong trail, got lost and wandered through mud. Found another trail...same result...Found the right trail and felt the exaltation of success! It was a great adventure! Left an M&M matchbox car and mini squirt gun. Took Yo-yo and bookmark.

Open Log: Personal use only Found this one this afternoon about 4:45 pm. I unintentionally bushwacked in... as by the time I realised I was going in the wrong way, it was too close to turn around. The cache is in good shape. Nice hide... but be careful heading in to grab the cache. I slipped a bit when heading in the last few feet, and buried a thorn in my hand... Owieeeeeeeee! There big, so they *really* hurt.... but at least they're easy to pull out. Took nothing... left the QSL.

Open Log: Personal use only Took a day off with my husband and we decided to go caching once it stopped raining. We really enjoyed this one, even though we took the wrong trail and tried to bushwack through a swamp. We back tracked and got on the right trail, and finally found it. We will be back to find the rest, but had to leave to pick up the kids from school. Thanks for the hide.

This was my last find of the day.
I tried walking directly from Morgan's Adventure to this one using existing trails and crossing through the open woods. I got to see lots of open woods with many squirrels and a couple of big deer before I realized it wasn't possible. There was marsh on 3 sides of me and I was still .31 miles away. I was so deep in the woods I had to use morgan's adventure as a waypoint to get back out. This park is a lot bigger than I thought it was.
Since I got skunked on another of Barrington's hides today I was determined to find this one!
Once I got back to the truck and figured out where to go to park, I found it pretty quickly. There are tons of deer and rabbits on and around the trails.
I took the corn chips (yes, I was that hungry by then and the seals were all still good), and a bunch of empty gum and candy wrappers and left a poncho and gloves. The paper contents of this one are starting to get a little damp.

Took us a while to find the way to the cache. We first walked this way, then that way, and then back the first way. Then we started trying to make our way straight to the cache through the swamp, but then turned around. Issaquah Puppy and I eventually found our way around the swamp. 40 feet from what trail?

Open Log: Personal use only This one took some time to find. We entered from the main entrance and after finding 3 other caches were pretty tired. We decided to move the car to the location in the hint. The trails switch back and forth and always seem to take you in the wrong direction. Realizing the reeds wouldn't work we turned right after the bridge and bushwhacked to the location. After reading the log we realized there must be a trail nearby - and there was one within 20 feet!!! It would help to get a trail map for this park before heading out. Took nothing, left nothing.

First of three caches for us today! We got a good start on our mud baths by trudging through the paths here at the park. We made things worse for ourselves by taking the wrong turn on one of the paths & had to backtrack. I should've listened to my 9-year old son!

Open Log: Personal use only This was a nice walk and we were surprised in reading the logbook that some of the earlier cachers had a hard time with this one. We used the main trail most of the way and then the deer led us to your Hawthorn tree. The beautiful stone house at your nearer parking coordinates gave us a opportunity to get a great picture with our new digital camera. Thanks again for a good hide and they are still fun even when you are not first.

Open Log: Personal use only Clear, crisp morning - mid 40's - 10:30 AM. We made this one a lot harder than it should have been. We bush-wacked for a tenth of a mile on deer paths only to come out on a trail (lesson learned: if the GPS is still reading in tenths of a mile to the destination, stay on the trail and don't worry about the shortest distance between point A and B). We sent the 6 yr old (short guy) as the lead scout with my wife bringing up the rear to hold back the branches from wacking the sleeping baby in the back pack. Unfortunately she got wacked in the lip. Back on the trail and planning on staying there, we arrived at the site. More bushwacking - no luck. Back out on the trail to re-group. Gave the baby to mom and then circled the coordinates with the 6 yr old. Finally dove into the thick stuff and found the box. Sent the little guy under the limbs to retrieve it. Took some marbles and left a yo -yo. This one was some work, but since it was our 2nd find this morning we were happy. Went back to play on the playground.

ACK! Still pulling whats left of a 3 inch thorn out of my @$$. Caron said it all, we got greedy and made more of this adventure than we bargained for. If you trust your eyes and your feet from the get-go you will do well with this adventure. I on the other hand had a quick moment of dumbness befall me and that was that. I nenver realized just how big this park really is until today. We found this cache around 2pm and the weather was very nice with clear sky and warm temps. We kicked up a couple doe on the way in and also a nice sized forked buck not too far from the Cache itself. My GPS that I was using (Garmin IIIPlus) showed me to be 6 feet from the Cache when I had it sitting on top of the container, so I would say your coordinates were dead on. I left a " wheres George" bill which I am not certain if I even entered it now that I ink about it, so if you find it and it does not take on the George website please be sure to e-mail me at gqstone@rochester.rr.com and I will quickly enter it so that your report will show. I also added a very nice audio book that is three hours long. Great for those ling drives. | |
