This cache is located near the summit of a 3,000+ foot mountain. You will need to take Exit 66 off of I-40 to get to the parking area located at N-35.37.275 / W-082.16.105. It is less than 1/2 mile from the parking area to the cache as the crow flies with about 450 ft of elevation change. The actual hike up is further because of the many switchbacks in the trail.
The trail up to the cache is steep but you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the Greybeard Mountains once you reach the top. Keeping a good lock on the sats may be a problem but just follow the trail and you'll be ok. The cache is hidden just off the trail so no bushwhacking is necessary. You will be looking for a clear, plastic container with a white lid. The cache is full of goodies so please be sure to re-hide it well after you have located it. |

I wanted to do some caching this morning, but also needed to be at a Father's Day gathering about 1pm. I came up with a plan of using my bike to do this trail to get to this cache and Crest of the Ridge, and then come back up old 70 by Lookout Point. I've ridden/walked the same route numerous times before, but that was before geocaching. When I arrived at the parking area it was foggy and everything was very wet, so I changed my plan, opting to hike to the first two and then ride down to Lookout Point. Found this cache about 8am. The woods were foggy and wet, and the trail was slick, but everything was very beautiful also. The laurel still has some bloom, and wildflowers were blooming everywhere. I was traveling light, so I took nothing and left nothing. Just signed and stamped the log and recovered the cache well. Then I moved on down the trail. Thanks Mag315 for another good one and a nice hike.
