Located in Mendon Ponds Park in the area of the nature trails.Plenty of paths heading all the way back to the cache location. No heavy duty climbing.
I don't like to place one cache in an area close to another existing cache, but I inadvertantly made #1 a bit of a cakewalk.I found this area after a bit of exploration & I really wanted to put one back there.Cache container is a retired 30 cal. ammo box, black with white lettering.Contents are a little different than most of my other caches. There's a few inexpensive trinkets for the kids but also some neat stuff for you big kids. The usual log book is also enclosed.Trails head all the way back to the location but when you get close, you'll have to leave the trail. There is a large area back there with trails going in different directions.Marking your location when wandering around back there wouldn't be a bad idea.Satellite fixes were not bad at all on both my III Plus & my Vista. Placed the cache in a spot where it is relatively clear above. Both my units had steady fixes on 6 satellites each.Again,30 cal. is not very big so don't bother lugging big items back there to exchange. Cache also contains 3 wheresgeorge bills to track at the wheresgeorge.com website.Enjoy --Gimpy--

This was our second (and last) cache find during our short visit to Mendon Ponds today. This was just another opportunity for Chicky and I to be amazed at the diversity and splendor of this magnificent park. The hike back to this cache revealed a ton of interesting and unique stops along the way - and even introduced us to some of the most curious little squirrels and chipmunks I've ever encountered...haha.

Since the trail system is a little loopy and goes in every-which-way, we decided to stay the course and enjoy the trail for as long and far as it would take us! Fortunately after a splendid hike, we realized we on the right track, and once near the cache we headed off into the wild unknown in search of our prize. Once to the cache location, the snag was made and we spent a while just basking in the beautiful peace of nature.

On our way out we stopped by the nature center and experienced the birds of prey they had there. What an amazing feature! We were extremely impressed with the rare and gorgeous animals they had - and spent a great deal of time just staring in awe at them. What an awesome experience on such an extraordinary day. Thank you for such an excellent introduction to Mendon Ponds - we cannot wait to return!

I found this one right after finding Mendon Ponds 1 and Bathing with the Devil. I was surprised by a very friendly deer as I made my way to the cache, I was able to get within 10 feet of her and we both just stood there looking at each other wondering what each other was thinking. I found the cache very well hidden and I traded one of my bottle opener keychains for a wine stopper. Thanks for the cache! -Paleoman52-

Found at end of day Sunday 11/26. We were forth entry that day, only about four total for September and October, that is how nice a day it was. Was able to show my daughter four different deer scrapes, heavy in rutting season for sure.

Left three candles and took an inflatable beachball.

Nice find.

A bit gloomy but welcome break from all the heat.

I saw a few dear not far from the cache but I don't think they spotted me.

A wood pecker was going crazy on a tree while I was looking for the cache.

I walked over from Mendon Ponds 1 and got here well after dark. Of course I tried the wrong side of the pond the first time and got within 210 feet with no joy. I backtracked out and went in on the right side but I was following the perimeter of the pond pretty closely and there were no trails there....

In another couple weeks, the paths I took will be very wet.

When I did find it, I took Elmo for the kids and left a can of camping fuel and a few other things. Cache is pretty full right now so bring smaller items to fit.

On the way out I went through the woods and found lots of trails suited to those who have 4 legs and are 4 feet tall. All the underbrush made this a very interesting night cache.

The walk back along the main trails to get back to the truck was spectacular. The moon was just full enough to make the lights unnecessary and the peepers and ducks were great company.

Saw deer going in and then there was a doe and 2 fawns in the nature park at the trailhead coming out. Signed log, took/left nothing. If you're a fan of chipmunks, as I am, this is a WONDERFUL cache! Took the educational way around and soaked up lots of knowledge. Everywhere I went, chipmunks crossed my path. I wondered if I was on the wrong path for a while, but I decided to follow the twists and turns and soon found my ingress to the actual location. While I was filling out the log, all I could hear was geese, geese, geese! I think I was bothering them. The big white-tail deer standing a few yards away couldn't even hear me over their ruckus, so I sat and watched him for a bit. Took lots of chipmunk pictures on the way back out. Thanks for a great afternoon!

I think either Gimpy is very short to get under all those branches, or we didn't find the right path in. It started raining half way here from the Mendon Ponds Cache, but my granddaughter voted to press on (a true cacher). We found it in the pouring rain.. pen gave out, glasses fogged over, and I had to finish the log in pencil. But... did we have a good time? You bet!! Maybe next time I'll even remember to bring the ponchos. :) Traded a G bill and a couple of trinkets. Found an easier way out, but not by much.

Hey! This was our second find of 5 for the day.

I must say that this was the easiest Gimpy cache that we've found so far...not hill approaches, no mud boggs, no prickers or thorns...not that I'm complaining :) the only problem that we had with this cache was a people peril. A veritable mod at Mendon ponds today. People just kept standing and waiting for birds to light on there hands...Fearless had us all wait until the people were out of eyesight. We then darted into the brush as silently as is possible with a family of 5.....The cache is in great shape. Took a WGeorge bill, tissues, tools and a squish. Left a Disney music CD, mouthwash, balancing guys and a pumkin popper (turn it inside out and this baby flys).

Thanks as always for such an enjoyable adventure!!
