Located in Mendon Ponds Park in the area of the nature trails.Plenty of paths heading all the way back to the cache location. No heavy duty climbing. I don't like to place one cache in an area close to another existing cache, but I inadvertantly made #1 a bit of a cakewalk.I found this area after a bit of exploration & I really wanted to put one back there.Cache container is a retired 30 cal. ammo box, black with white lettering.Contents are a little different than most of my other caches. There's a few inexpensive trinkets for the kids but also some neat stuff for you big kids. The usual log book is also enclosed.Trails head all the way back to the location but when you get close, you'll have to leave the trail. There is a large area back there with trails going in different directions.Marking your location when wandering around back there wouldn't be a bad idea.Satellite fixes were not bad at all on both my III Plus & my Vista. Placed the cache in a spot where it is relatively clear above. Both my units had steady fixes on 6 satellites each.Again,30 cal. is not very big so don't bother lugging big items back there to exchange. Cache also contains 3 wheresgeorge bills to track at the wheresgeorge.com website.Enjoy --Gimpy-- |

This was our second (and last) cache find during our short visit to Mendon Ponds today. This was just another opportunity for Chicky and I to be amazed at the diversity and splendor of this magnificent park. The hike back to this cache revealed a ton of interesting and unique stops along the way - and even introduced us to some of the most curious little squirrels and chipmunks I've ever encountered...haha.

Open Log: Personal use only I found this one right after finding Mendon Ponds 1 and Bathing with the Devil. I was surprised by a very friendly deer as I made my way to the cache, I was able to get within 10 feet of her and we both just stood there looking at each other wondering what each other was thinking. I found the cache very well hidden and I traded one of my bottle opener keychains for a wine stopper. Thanks for the cache! -Paleoman52-

I walked over from Mendon Ponds 1 and got here well after dark. Of course I tried the wrong side of the pond the first time and got within 210 feet with no joy. I backtracked out and went in on the right side but I was following the perimeter of the pond pretty closely and there were no trails there....

Open Log: Personal use only Third and last cache of the day for Harburu and I. We enjoyed the walk through the woods. Although there are nature trails in the area, we managed to park such that there was no trail from our starting point. This is a very nice area. Thanks for the fun. Took nothing, left nothing.

If you're a fan of chipmunks, as I am, this is a WONDERFUL cache! Took the educational way around and soaked up lots of knowledge. Everywhere I went, chipmunks crossed my path. I wondered if I was on the wrong path for a while, but I decided to follow the twists and turns and soon found my ingress to the actual location. While I was filling out the log, all I could hear was geese, geese, geese! I think I was bothering them. The big white-tail deer standing a few yards away couldn't even hear me over their ruckus, so I sat and watched him for a bit. Took lots of chipmunk pictures on the way back out. Thanks for a great afternoon!

Open Log: Personal use only I think either Gimpy is very short to get under all those branches, or we didn't find the right path in. It started raining half way here from the Mendon Ponds Cache, but my granddaughter voted to press on (a true cacher). We found it in the pouring rain.. pen gave out, glasses fogged over, and I had to finish the log in pencil. But... did we have a good time? You bet!! Maybe next time I'll even remember to bring the ponchos. :) Traded a G bill and a couple of trinkets. Found an easier way out, but not by much.

No problem, sometimes senic routes are more fun. Disappointed there where no WG bills, left one. Great park, will be back, mabey to leave my own.

I thought the terrain on this one was tougher that Gimpy's other Mendon Ponds Park cache which has a higher rated difficulty. There is not really a trail to this one that I found, mostly small animal runs. I left a CDROM, and took a Wheres George, and signed the log book.

I found out that an after picnic cache is as enjoyable as an after dinner mint. What's a navicacher to do with 2 more hours of daylight. This one seemed to be isolated to say the least. I did cross a few paths and I heard people talking but I never found the path they were on. Swapped out a puzzle CD for a five spot if anybody is interested. By the way I got a chance to try Rbowters Skeeter siren. At first I thought it was working but then found I had to hit them with it to get them to move. I sprayed some deet and moved on (Grinning)

Well Delta Team braved out with a fellow new comer.. We went between the rain drops and succeded in our task. We took the flashlight and a KNife.. Left a hotwheel car and for the more adventuresome a Brain teaser CD... We liked the location, kind of like rediscovering Mendon Ponds all over again.. We dodge raindrops on the way out, but that was all part of our dventure. Thanks Gimpy... Wendy w/Delta Team
