In Mendon Ponds Park. Location suitable for hard core cachers or the whole family. Mendon Ponds Park is a large, beautiful park just south of the city of Rochester.Horseback riders, deer & plenty of other wildlife are always present.Entrances off rt. 65(Clover St.) or rt. 64 in the towns of Mendon/Pitsford. For hard core cachers, take the more difficult path to the cache near Devils Bathub. For the family, take the relatively easy winding path along the western edge of the main pond. Cache is a 50 cal. green ammo can with white lettering Cache includes a log book to fill out,a camera to take a snapshot of yourself, and many goodies including: A "guy thing" drink holder, keyrings,a rubber snake, nail clippers,a yomega yo-yo and some silly putty. Take what you wish & leave what you might. Plenty of picnic areas & playgrounds in the park so make it a family outing.A public beach in the summertime is a hit with the kids. Happy Caching |

The walk in was beautiful and serene, and the closer we got to the cache the closer and more plentiful the lightening booms got. Walking along the lake made for a great vantage point as we could see far off into the distance which allowed for several awesome views of the lightening cracking in the distance. It was certainly a surreal and amazing experience. The height of the weather activity struck as we arrived at the cache, and after a short search the box was found and shortly thereafter we were back along the trail on our way back. Slowly the inclement weather let up and we enjoyed our hike pondside, stopping every once in a while to admire some of the huge trees and lakeside vistas we came across.

Open Log: Personal use only I was in town for the day visiting from Pittsburgh. I used to live in Rochester for an 8-year stretch about 15 years ago. This park was one of my favorites to visit for different activities in all four seasons. This cache was the fifth of several found on a nice hiking tour of the area. I enjoyed the hike around the lake. Found this Navicache very quickly in a likely spot. Everything was in good shape. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache and for bringing back the great memories!

O well, we found it without a problem and continued to slip our way up teh hill only to take the harder path back too. Didnt plan this out very well, but we found it and CamoKid is only a little more hurt than he already was. TFTC, geocaching.com (byrnedfish)

This was our second cache, and our first under wooded, hilly terrain. We had printed a topo map of the area and marked the cache location. Novice cachers, we were challenged by the steep terrain and a wildly swinging GPS compass rose that took us far above the actual cache location. We proceeded carefully. Once we got to within 30 feet or so, we were looking for visual clues - and there were many viable spots to hide the cache! Within a couple of minutes we found the location.

Cache number 2 of 4 today, and this was such a nice walk! Came from the direction I wanted (there was something in this park I wanted to see on the way) and cut over up and down the hill to get to this one. Lots of people out on the trails, but I think I escaped detection. Took the hand towels because I needed them desperately, traded georges, and left something else - I forget what! A very nice walk with great scenery and good exercise, too. :)

Our 3rd cache for the day. We had a nice long hike to this one. We hiked from the Mendon Ponds #2 cache to this one. We got very close when we saw people on the trail below. They kept looking up towards us. They didn't see us and we sat very still until they past. We took the Skittles (we were hungry) and the Stars Wars walker. We left bubbles and 2 Science is fun pencils. Once again we had to hide this cache much better then we found it. Thanks for a great hike.

Had a good walk for this one, decided to take the easier path (right) longer walk all the way around and must have taken a wrong turn at one point we were .05 miles away (perpendicular to the path) so we went bushwacking straigt up the hill, not too bushy but steep. Wouldnt you know it there was a path at the top of that hill and we were now .02 away and of course perpendicular to the path again. From where I was I could see a good spot for a cache and thinking "Why go around now" marked my starting point with one of our orange leis (clue!) and down we went right to the cache. You cant see it from the path but from where I was it was plain as day.

4th of 4 finds today. 1:00 P.M. Thought I was taking the easy way. Don't know what I did but must have got turned around. Ended up climbing up the other side of the hill to the upper path only to have to go back down it on the cache side to the cache. But your coordinates brought me right to it. Took the easy way back out except for the climb back up the steps. Logged in. Took picture #22 with cache camara. Took/left nothing. Thanks Gimpy for the hide. Enough for today. But will be back to do the rest of them in this park real soon.

We got skunked on this one last summer, but went right to it today, the difference being the MAP330 GPS that replaced old unreliable, a GPS315. Beautiful day, mid-50's and sunny, and lots of people out and about on a Monday. We were the third visitors to the cache today, at 1.00 PM. Took a blue glass thingie, left a Sacajawea buck, and took a picture (I think #28) with the camera. Thanks!

Climbed up the hill (with baby in backpack), wife, and 6 yr old. Then climbed back down with 6 yr old (wife and baby took the long way down). Finally found it where I suspected it might be. Took an American flag patch and left a yo-yo. Took a photo of my boy with my wife and baby in the background. Thanks for a good time.

Guess what. Still more daylight and only half eaten by skeeters. So I was drawn into another after picnic cache. Found this one just off the path I didn't take again. Gimpy I'm beginning to think you have that in mind with all your caches. And a good hiding spot to boot. I liked it. Took a picture as people were walking by. I don't know why they looked at me so puzzled. I wasn't wearing my hat. Took some nail clippers and left a tin of Altoids. With a fine picnic and 3 caches for the day, Road Kill went home grinning.
