I've always wanted to place a cache on the top of Bedford Road and now here it is. This is a very strenuous yet beautiful hike and should only be attempted by those in good shape hence the name "Yes, It's Straight Uphill!"
I would suggest doing this hike very early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It is a four mile hike in with an elevation gain from 1090 feet to 3800 feet. The trail intersects with Bedford Road about 2 miles into the hike. However, you can cross over the fire road and continue on the single track trail for quite a ways further up. As you get near the top, the trail will end and you will have to use the fire road for the remaining hike. I recommend staying on the trail for as long as possible. The suggested parking coordinates for the hike in are N33 47.112 W117 30.377. If you want a slightly more gradual hike, you can hike directly up Bedford Road. Turn onto Bedford Road via Knabe and drive until you see the locked access gate. The hike in from here is about 1 1/2 miles further than the suggested parking coordinates. This might also be a good option if you want a challenging mountain bike ride. Good luck and bring plenty of water! You will be rewarded with outstanding views of both the Riverside and Orange counties. See if you can find the nice benchmark which is about 1/2 mile or so from the cache site. The cache is a reddish brown thermos container and the initial contents were: --Logbook --$2 Edwards Certificate --Disney 25 year penny bottle --Stack of baseball cards --Toy beeper --Sewing kit --GeoSciGuy Gold --Where's George dollar bill --Nebraska pin --Magic Mountain silver dollar --Leather deer necktie |
