Seventh and final geocache I found today with Navcb in the greater Vinton area. Hit this one around 8:30 pm. WOW, yet another out-of-the way park that neither of us knew existed. We were very close, and the GPS showed only half a mile to go, when we came to a screaching halt. Looked out over the Cedar River and the remains of the bridge supports for what must have been a long gone road bridge. So once again we had to backtrack and leap frog on back roads to get over to the park. Poor Navcb's blazer sure got a workout today!
Tried the trail from the tent camping area, but the trail soon became lost to us, and we decided to trailblaze in the last tenth of a mile. It was getting late and we didn't want to take the batteries out of the GPS to power up Navcb's mini-mag. Scared up some wild turkeys while we beat feet towards the cache. Even this late it was still very HOT and HUMID, and the mosquito air force was VERY HOSTILE!!!! They laughed at our feeble bug repellent defenses and zeroed in for several hits.

Took nothing, but left my last package of x-treme breathmints for the next brave soul to attempt this well defended cache! <<<<I've since then been informed not to leave mints in caches, and no longer do so. thanks Welch for the advise. edit 1/11/2004>>>>

As a side note, instead of trying to find a trail back, we just tumbled down the hill and somehow made it across the stream without getting our feet wet, and yes there was a good amount of water in it too.

Would have attempted more, but our wives missed us. And besides, we didn't have fresh batteries for our flashlights

First Visit: 20-May-03

Pushed our luck trying to get this one in before dinner. Didnt remember the suggested starting point (near the boat ramp) so we started at the walk-in camping area. Found a trail to the top of the ridge, but it seemed to veer away so we headed cross country. Finally got to the spot and found lots of good hiding places but no cache. Will try again (and start from the right trail) when we have more time.

Second Visit: 23-May-03

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGG! I hate getting beat twice by the same cache !

Started the weekend early today and took another shot at this one, without the kids this time. Followed the trail until the GPS pointed perpendicular, then paced off the distance. Ended up at the same place as the other day. Did as methodical a seach as I could with all of the obstacles. I even punched in coords from TJ-Tiggers log. They put me about 25 feet NNW but that didnt help. Ill give it another try after someone else finds it.

My search was centered around the only fallen tree that was not completely down. It is tangled in another tree and is standing at about 30 degree angle. I forgot the camera (to post a picture for confirmation), so I left a stick teepee at the base of this tree.

Third Visit: 7-June-03

Third time is the charm....Of course it is much easier to find the cache when the cache is actually there ;)

The 'skeeters were really bad, Im pretty sure I felt myself being lifted up when I stood still to sign the log.

Thanks for replacing it!

Nice walk up a hill. Good exercise. Cache was easy to find. We left Obi Jr. travel bug, money and a yo-yo. Took wooden motorcycle puzzle and airplane. Thanks for the great cache!
