On August 23 and 24, 2003, we invite you to the New York Geocaching Organization's (NYGO) 2003 State Picnic being held at Sampson State Park. The park is located in Romulus, NY on the east shore of Seneca Lake.

This is a two-day action-packed, activity-filled extravaganza! There will be raffles with lots of prizes. The event will run all day Saturday through Sunday, so be sure to make camping arrangements. We have a number of activities in the works for all ages, including:

  • Dash for the 'Cache (Back by popular demand!)

  • Geo-Poker (Put on your poker face.)

  • Pin the Tail on the GPSr (Who will be closest?)

  • Tracklog Etch-a-Sketch (Can you draw?)

  • Ironman 'Caching (Hike. Bike. Paddleike. Ok, so it doesn't rhyme.)

  • Luminesence (Can you see in the dark?)

  • Travel Bug Swap (Bring those bugs.)

There are 245 electric campsites (loops 1-5), each loop equiped with running water and hot showers. Camping requires a two-night reservation. The park features biking trails, swimming, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, playgrounds, fishing, and open fields. There is also a navel museum, and a 123-berth marina.

This is a 1905 acre park. While the activities can be done on foot or in cars, we strongly encourage you to bring out your bikes. The park does have some bike rentals available.

Pets are allowed with a 6-foot leash, and proof of rabies vaccination.

The event is free to attend (although there is a $6 parking charge). We have reserved a large covered pavillion for both days, so it will be held rain or shine. We will coordinate two pot-luck style lunches. Details to come.

The park may also be hosting a hot-air balloon festival that weekend, as if there wasn't already enough to do!

Hope to see you there!

We had a great time this weekend! We would like to give a big thank you to Dekaner, J-Ra, Mr Mom, Strikforce1, Junglehair and everyone else who help make this weekend happen. It was good to see people we meet before and also put some new names with faces. Can't wait for Letchworth and any other events we can meet other cachers at.

Had a blast! The Poker Run was the best...how many geocachers does it take to retrieve a cache canister from inside a fire hydrant? Once again, She is up to her shoulders---great teamwork all! Kudos to NYGO for this event! And thanks DX for the quilt!

This was a great event and the weather was just fantastic. So much to do and so many old and new friends to see, just not enough time. Donna and I really enjoyed ourselves. It was obvious that a lot of time went into planning and running this event and to preclude missing someone we’ll just say we want to thank all the planners and doers for hosting such a marvelous event. Hope to see everone at Letchworth on Oct. 18

We will definitely be there. We are making some modifications to our caches and adding more in the next few weeks.
