The cache is a plastic container and contains a selection of small trinkets and a few geocoins. The terrain is not particularly difficult, but it is quite remote for Anglesey.
The cache is at Abermenai point, possibly the most remote spot on Anglesey. It is a glorious location with amazing panoramic views of Caernarfon, Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula when the weather is fine; and desolate and lonely when it is bad! The cache is located at the point, so it is neither in the dunes area, which is ecologically interesting or in the straits, which would be a little tricky. Please stick to the paths and use the hint unless you have a pretty good idea where to look to minimise potential damage. Access is possible starting from any of four carparks in the area, two of which are free, but the main beach/forest carparks on a turning in Newborough village itself costs £3. There are any number of ways of getting to the cache. On foot is the obvious choice, either across the nature reserve or along the beach, or even out one way and back the other. It is a pretty long walk for most people. One of the footpaths is tidal too! Alternatively you can get there by boat, but watch the currents across the bar - if you aren't sure you know what you are doing, find another way. Perhaps cycle along the beach at low tide, or even kite surf as we did! While you are hunting for the cache don't forget to enjoy the wonderful views of the Llyn Peninsula and closer to the cache views of Caernarfon and the castle. If you are struggling, there is a clue in the name of the cache, failing that use the hint. |
