An orange matchstick container located at the abandoned plant of Thorne Apple Valley. It is .7 miles from I-40 (exit 239) and is accessible completely by pavement. This is the first cache of three that I have placed on a 2.7 mile route from I-40.
This building was built roughly 15 years ago and it seems it had a short life. This location was originally Dixie Foods but was later bought by Thorne Apple Valley. I remember in 1999, there being a major recall of food products from this location. It was on the national news outlets. It was not long after that that the work in this location came to a halt. Luckily for Forrest City, Boars Head would open a plant in similar size so that the unemployment would be bearable. For us cachers, this unused many thousand sq ft facility is home to a matchstick container with a log. at least its not a total loss. |
