The Mineral Resources Research Center building sat abandoned for 20 years before it was refabbed into the new Educational Sciences Building. The building used to house industrial taconite refining equipment. Among the new offices are reminders of the building's history. Some of the old machinery is still present, worked into the architectural design, including the huge crane that ran along the ceiling. (Info from http://cehd.umn.edu/pubs/Connect/2008winter/history.html)

Also check out the Garden of Iron Mirrors, made of highly polished taconite samples. You may see yourself with cache in hand!
