30 Mile Point Lighthouse is at the Northern most Point of the Lake Ontario South Shore. It was built in 1875 and lit for the first time on April 27, 1876. It protected ships from the shallow sandbar that extended from 30 mile point. Prior to the construction of the lighthouse there were a number of historic shipwrecks. The US Lighthouse Service operated the light until July 1, 1939 when the USCG took over.
To log this cache, visit the lighthouse. Take a picture of yourself or someone from your team on the steps of the lighthouse. If you are visiting alone, then take a picture of your GPS along with something that identifies you at the blue information board. If you don't have a camera with you, e-mail us the information from 2 of the 8 signs (labeled 1-8) on the lighthouse building, property, or other buildings surrounding the lighthouse. Hope you enjoy a walk along the lake and the scenery at the lighthouse. |

I found the lighthouse (kind of hard to miss), email sent to BlackPete. Very interesting structure. A very nice day, with tons of people (old fogey's picnic) at the lighthouse. I'm a notorious cheapskate who uses an $84 Garmin Gecko 101, and would NEVER pay to find a cache, so I parked for free at the recommended parking for the nearby cache Golden Hill Hikers delight. Thanks Black Pete.

Open Log: Personal use only This Utahan was on business in the area so went for a nice drive to find this cache. Most interesting! Got there after closing hours so didn't get to go inside, but the grounds and the view were beautiful. Had no camera with me, but found 7 of the 8 posted signs (never could find #6). What are the metal cylindrical structures with what looks like smokestacks coming out of the top of them?

Was here on a very cold night with Mr Mom, the Goo, and her friend Asia. With no digital camera, my fingers were a little cold by the time I was done writing info to prove our visit. This was my first time in this section of the park. I've always loved lighthouses and the park where it stands. Came back the next day. Santa did bring me an APS camera so I took a few pictures and enjoyed the view, but I forgot to ask Santa to bring me a scanner so I could not post them.
