This cache is located in Lake Lurleen State Park. There is a $2 admission fee to enter the park. If there is no attendant present, which is often the case, please stop at the entrance and deposit the fee by the honor system--Alabama parks can surely use the funds. Fairly easy hike but we recommend some sturdy shoes because of large roots in the path.

When state laws prevented Alabama's George C. Wallace from seeking reelection in the 1960s, he enlisted his wife Lurleen B. Wallace to run instead. Mrs. Wallace, a native of Tuscaloosa County (and graduate of the same high school as cacheKidd #1)was one of the first female governors in the country. Sadly, Mrs. Wallace died of cancer before her term ended.

This lovely state park is named in her honor and it offers many activities. The cache is in a plastic container w/blue lid. There are a couple of trails that will get you to it. You may have to go through a gate that says "campers only." You can park near that sign and follow the road to the trail head.

Great cache! Found in good condition. Swapped travel bugs and signed the log.

George's Wife has been retired but may be put back into action later this year. There were no problems, just wanted a new spot.
A new cache has been hidden this week at the park and it's more challenging. The cache is now listed as Lake Lurleen but you can still see the George's Wife log book at that cache.
Thanks

Replaced leaky cache with a new Rubbermaid container. The cache smelled poorly, so maybe this will help.
