18 caches have been placed along a 22 mile rail/trail starting in the city of Elkins, WV and ending in Hendricks, WV. Terrain is generally flat - former rail road - there is a moderate hill climb of about 2 miles then an exhilarating 5 miles downhill between Trail-stops at Montrose and Porterwood. Each cache has a unique medal awaiting the first finder - the finder with the highest number of medals at the end of the day wins a prize.

This is a Puzzle/Treasure Hunt starting at 10am on Saturday, June 7, 2008. (National Trails Day.) The caches include 3 mini-cache magnetics at waypoints, and 18 regular tupper-ware caches along the trail. The treasure hunt is for 18 medals (one inside each cache) At the end of the day, prizes will be awarded to the treasure seekers with the highest number of medals. Puzzles will consist of questions with numerical answers, the numbers will be inserted into the coordinates for 7 of the 8 trail stops along the route. Each trail stop will have 3 or 4 caches hidden between it and the next one. i.e. starting with trail stop number one (N36.56.333 W079.51.219) there will be three caches from there to the second trail stop (N38.58.336 W079.50.399) where the coordinates for that stop will be posted. It's explained better on the website-www.hignlandtrails.org/geocaching.htm

Puzzle clues will be provided for each cache-site on the information released on June 7. Highlands Trail staff members will distribute written instructions (the puzzles)for each leg of the hunt - the Coordinates for all 8 trail-stops are listed on the website (www.highlandstrail.org/geocaching.htm)
