Tymor Forest was given as a public park to the people of Union Vale, New York in memory of Glenn Ford McKinney and his wife, Jean Webster, by their children. Tymor Forest presently consists of 500 acres including Furnace Pond and over one quarter mile of the length of Fishkill Creek, a natural trout stream of considerable fame. A former dairy farm, Tymor Park is the largest town park in New York State. There are miles of walking and fitness trails, playgrounds, pavilions and picnic areas, baseball and soccer fields and basketball courts. Most of the park will remain forever wild as a nature preserve.
The iron mines and smelting furnace located on the property now within the Park were of more importance than farmlands during the period of the American Revolution, two hundred years ago. In those days the property still belonged to the descendants of Colonel Beekman and the products of the iron industry were used to manufacture cannon balls and shipped to the Fishkill Foundry where steel swords of fine quality were made from locally mined iron. The cache is a 50 cal. Ammo box packed with an assortment of items. It is highly recommended that you park at N41.39.116 W73.41.905 to avoid trespassing on posted private property. |

I went to look for this cache today but could not find it. The location is a very nice area but the bridge over the brook at the south end of the lake is closed due to the recent rains and high waters.
