The 'cache is a .30 cal. ammo box, located off any number of paths that criss-cross the area. There are plenty of places to park that would be close to the area. Note: If you want to hunt all the Olmsted #1 caches, you will have to cross Rt. 198. A pedestrian bridge is available.

This cache is a continuation of our Olmsted #1 - The Park cache. This is a sticker cache, where we ask people to trade stickers only. Please take a sticker (or two or three!) for your own log book, and leave your own sticker in our log book. If you like, tell us why you picked the sticker that you did!
The cache is located approximately 35 feet North-East of the coordinates.

Further Park Background: Much of Olmsted's design for Delaware Park was damaged by the use of the grounds for the Pan American Exhibition of 1901.

The Vaux boat house was replaced by a larger and more prominently sited structure. Two large marble structures in the mode of the City Beautiful movement then sweeping the country were prominently sited within the park - the Historical Society building which served as the New York State pavillion during the exhibition, and the Albright (now Albright-Knox) Art Gallery. A municipal golf course was established on the meadow. A permanent zoological collection was established adjacent to The Farmstead, replacing the flock of sheep which had formerly grazed upon the park meadow. In the 1930s the zoo was considerably enlarged as part of a Works Progress Administration project.

A massive intrusion onto Olmsted's design occurred about 1960, when an expressway was extended across the park, separating it into two sections and bringing the bustle of the city into the heart of the park. As a part of the construction, significant portions of the park lake were filled. The lake, long suffering from upstream pollution, became little more than an open sewer, and retained little of its Olmsted shoreline. An early 1980s effort to clean the lake further reduced the shoreline and tunnelled the pollution bearing waters of the creek underground past the park.

Tried to find this one as well as a couple other Olmstead caches. Since it's been nearly a year and a half since this one's been logged, I suspect it might have gone bye-bye as well. I saw a few places where I thought it might have been, but nothing was there.

EDIT: Changing log to a comment as I just found out this cache was archived on the other site July 21, 2004.

Mr Mom and I (along with the cacher formerly known as GOO)were on our way back to the car after the firworks and couldn't resist hitting this one as it was only .24 from where we were sitting. Even though it was after 11PM and dark, we went straight to the cache location with no searching. Good hiding spot. Signed the log book, slipped back out unnoticed, and walked the 1/2 mile back to the car. Thanks for the cache!!

Three for three, now our day is complete.. We had a great time with all the Olmsted caches today. One would wonder how you fit a little box into that spot..One would also wonder why it took us so long to realize just how easy it was to remove it!! Now that wasn't nice, but it sure got a good laugh out of all of us. Again, the coordinates couldn't have been better. We left a Balloon Federation Sticker and an American Flag sticker. We left as quickly as possible as not to draw attention to ourselves on this busy afternoon. Thanks for some very nice caches today!!

2nd cache of the day! A good hide but it didn't take me long before homing on it. I placed my signature sticker in the logbook and signed it. I left the Beaver Meadow Scout SUV TB and picked up the Mini-Magellan TB ;-). Just a short drive around the park for Beaver Meadow, only slightly closer to its goal...

Found this cache w/ Sue (Lyndon Rd gang) at 10:57PM. When we decided to take this overnight trip to Buffalo/Ontario, Canada on a spur of the moment due to the great warm November weather, we just printed out nearby caches w/o reading them, thus we had no stickers to trade (happens when the decision is made to go and you leave your house within 1 hour). I did take one ladybug sticker for my logbook, picked it because before leaving home at 12:30, I had seen 2 ladybugs while out caching in Fairport and 1 was even in my house! Thanks again for another good Olmsted hide.

Found this in October on a day trip to Buffalo. Happened to see it posted here and added our log. We enjoyed the Olmstead series. Look forward to more in the future. Took nothing, left nothing.
