There was an Elephant
From Oliphant
Who used to roam the land
Then one day
He lost his way
With no GPS in hand

Your mission is to find the lost elephant of Oliphant. He was last seen somewhere in SGL 138. If you find him, please cover him back up for the next cacher(s). Remember to wear your orange during hunting season and watch out for snakes, bears, bobcats and Breakfastchief.

This cache is located in SGL 138. There is parking available near the trailhead. There is also a first-to-find prize (an unactivated Four Corners micro geocoin) in the cache. Please cover up to avoid muggling. The overall distance round trip is about one mile on well established trails. You may have to bushwhack the remaining few hundred feet.

Have fun, be safe and good luck!

Elephants are my favorite animal...so majestic and intelligent...I was hoping to see one on our excursion to Oliphant, but as the Questmaster had mentioned it was not the season be out hunting them in the first place, plus it apparently is LOST as the cache page explained. We did see an incredibly amazing outcropping of rocks and yes I did find this cache, but Questmaster was wrong about him finding all the other caches...I saw them first and "let" him find them...yeah, that's how it was...it's my story and I'm sticking to it. And furthermore that little bit about me leaving some of Apple Annie's in the woods...TMI on Questmaster's part, but (no pun intended) when Mother Nature calls you have to answer. This was a great cache to end a great day of caching with Questmaster...Looking forward to another...geckogrl

If this Elephant was from Oliphant, it was very lost indeed.

Geckogrl and I hit this cache on our way home after getting a gutful of food at Apple Annie's (great desserts!) in Point Marion. The plan was to pick up her daughter in Fairchance afterwards but that never happened because she couldn't tell us what church she was at. I suspect that she probably wasn't at any church because she was likewise out hunting elephants with a bunch of juvenile delinquent congsters. They know full well that Elephants aren't in season and that it's quite illegal to spotlight them at night or shoot at them from the back of a quad but that doesn't stop it from happening.

We pursued our quarry from the designated parking spot where we found the tomb of a family pet that had appently been raided by a wild animal or a very confused grave robber who was hoping against hope that some kid's dead rabbit or bird or turtle or hamster (not sure what it was) might have been interred with valuable jewelry. The trail was quite overgrown which is to say that there was little or no sign that something as large as an elephant had passed this way recently. I was glad for that because I really didn't want to encounter an elephant or the gang of teenagers on quads shooting at it in these woods. We found, instead, an unremarkable rock formation with a cache that revealed itself to GG after I had passed right over the spot. It was her turn to find one because I had found the rest of the caches that we did on today's little excursion.

I think that GG made some trades but I settled for taking a TB and putting my mark in the logbook. GG also left some of Apple Annie's in the woods nearby but nobody will want to find that.

Thanks for listing this over here on the third world of geocaching where I am still inclined to provide a little content now and again.

This was a nice hike for an evening after work. The weather was lovely. The cache was well hidden and we had fun finding it.

nice area for hunting. I was going to park on the side of the road and walk straight up but, my caching-comrade said "NO WAY" so we took the nice hike across the top and paid our respects to someones pet rabbit, whos' styrofoam coffin had been muggled! enjoyed the walk out and if you squint just so, you can make out the elephant. Thanks for bring me back to this area, it's been awhile. swapped swag for some TB's TFTC
