You have arrived at the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi River. Water flows from Lake Itasca and becomes the Mississippi River.
Several years ago, I visited this spot with my Boy Scout Troop and stood in the middle of the Mighty Mississippi River. The water barely covered my ankles. The river is maybe 20' wide adn barely moving. It so happened at that time, that my wife was visiting her family in Louisianna. Her family owns land that borders the mighty Mississippi River just north of New Orleans. The river is a tad deeper, wider and faster moving there. I decided to have a little fun and phoned her. "Dear, we can feel so better connected because we're at opposite ends of the Mississippi, I'm standing in the middle of the river, if you do the same where you are, we'll be connected." "What? NO, You get in the River!" Well......that's the edited version of what she said anyway. To claim credit for this find, you must submit a photo of you standing in the middle of the mighty Mississippi River at this location. |
