This event was everything I imagined it would be. The weather turned out much better than was predicted and I had a great time caching today with Butterflyguy and Ladybug. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot I met up with the Wicked Redheads and enjoyed visiting with them before I soon ran into Butterflyguy and Ladybug. We decided to do the event caches so we spent the rest of the morning doing the event cache and then the cache with 8 eggs to find, (we ended up finding all eight eggs). After this we made a beeline back to the event to enter our finds into the raffle. I was lucky this year and ended up winning a raffle prize (an awesome pin on compass). Many Thanks to Gamma kit and the gang for all the hard work they put into putting on this event. There was so much food and wonderful comraderie amongst all the cachers and the day flew by way too fast. I am already looking forward to next years gathering. A special congratulations to the Wicked Redheads for being the lucky winner of the antler handled stone knife I donated to the raffle. -Paleoman52-

Letchworth - one of the best places to cache in NY. What a pleasure it was to return to this majestic park and tackle some of the caches and gather with friends for an afternoon full of fun. This is my favorite annual event, and I was so glad to have the opportunity to be there. Had a lot of fun chatting it up with many cachers, especially those who I hadn't seen since last year. My thanks go out to those that put all their hard work and dedication into this event, as well as those that helped out around the pavilion. I look forward to Letchworth VII. Cache on, everybody!

Well, another fantastic Letchworth Event has come to pass – and although this was only my second ever “official” Letchworth Gathering, I have to say without any hesitation whatsoever that it truly gets absolutely no better than this. I arrived onsite sometime before 7am, only to find that I was all alone. So I wandered around a bit, and decided to head of to Mt. Morris to grab a quick bite to eat. I returned to the cache site a short time later to find Gamma Kitt and Tiny Skeeter setting up shop. So I helped set up a few things, laid out some pictures, and even had the esteemed pleasure of posting the “Letchworth Fall Gathering” sign on the door. After everything was in order, I excused myself and headed over to the east side of Letchworth for a nice morning hike along my favorite trail in the park. The sun was just starting to peek through the tree canopy, and the air was cool and crisp.

I hiked in a ways and found a nice rock to stop and relax on so that I could kick back and enjoy this splendiferous morning. After a short break, I decided to venture off road a ways to a spot my friend P-Man had informed me about. Once there I was awestruck at how stunningly beautiful Letchworth is on an autumn morning such as this. There I parked my butt at the precipice of the gorge, and proceeded to call Chicky on my cell to inform her of my inspiring discovery. Following this conversation, I sat in this peace and epic beauty for nearly an hour enjoying the serenity that only a site of this immense excellence can provide. The sounds of nature surrounded me from all sides and I realized that there could be no happier person in any happier place then I was at this very moment. After a while I heard scuffling behind me, so up I popped to see 3 deer within 200 feet enjoying an early morning sojourn (much like myself). What a special moment to start my Letchworth Gathering day. Grinning from ear to ear at the tremendous amount of good fortune I was experiencing on my morning trek, I decided to journey deeper into the park in search of more early morning Letchworth adventures. Soon I found myself in the gorge itself with a gaggle of geese playing in a lake nearby while the mighty Genesee flowed peacefully by. With the gorge walls all around me, it was an unbelievable to gaze upon this natural wonder from a unique vantage point.

Fully satisfied with my discoveries, I slowly made the walk back to the FLT enjoying this stretch of trail all the way back to my car. I headed back over to the event and began part two of my excellent geo-day. After arrival, I was greeted by a slew of cachers from all over Western New York – many of whom I have not seen in ages! It was exceptional catching up with so many of these folks, as well as putting a few names to faces of those who I have heard so much about. As a special treat, my best friends Johmer and Karentinks also were in attendance to represent the Pennsylvania contingent (and of course collaborate with Chicky on slim-jim related tomfoolery…haha ).

After an awesome afternoon of chatting, sharing geo-stories and eating all the great food everyone had provided, it was time to head out and tackle a cache or two with Chicky (and for a few fleeting moments with Huck…right before he climbed the cliff and left us for dead…haha). The rest of the afternoon was spent in a beautiful section of Letchworth which I had never explored before (and am extremely grateful to Brogan for introducing us to it). This hike was a perfect way to end such a fun filled day. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this great event together. The time, care and effort that everyone invests into this gathering make it one of the most pristine caching events in the region. Thank you to everyone for attending – can’t wait for next year’s!
