Cache is a 3 qt plastic container. It is a letter box type cache. Please sign the log book and use the stamp. The cache has a few CDs which contain articles related to Rochester history. If you have an interest please take one. A few items for swapping have been added. If you take something please leave something.

In 1863 the nursery men George Ellwanger and Patrick Barry, along with others, initiated the Rochester horse car for public transport. One line ran to McCracken Street (now Driving Park Avenue). To encourage ridership in 1868 they purchased the Maple Grove, now the NE corner of Lake and Driving Park Avenues, and had a European style beer garten open there. Other forms of recreation such as concerts and dances were also available. The partners invested heavily in real estate and in 1870 opened the Glen House (a river level resort) and in 1878 added an elevator to improve access. In the middle 1890's as part of a settlement of a law suit the City of Rochester acquired the Maple Grove and Glen House properties. The city hired the firm of Olmstead Brothers to prepare a plan for the land and in 1904 it was included in whatis now known as Maplewood Park. Until this time the
park land on the east side of the Genesee was called Seneca Park East and that on the west side, Seneca Park West.

My sons and I came out after supper and found this one. I am amazed how many parks there are in this area, that I had no idea were here. Thanks for showing me another one. I took one of the history cd's. So far it looks very interesting.

Bearcub here:
We parked on the side of the road 200ft from the cache. We walked down a stony path and Bearpaw went up the hill but then he noticed he was in he wrong area, so we went back up the path a little farther and the cache was right there under a flat rock.

Logging this way after the fact. I remember it was my first ever "out of town" cache. I've become much better at reading mapquest maps, and turning on the GPS *BEFORE* I get to the cache site now.

July 9, 2003 -Our first cache 'on our own'!! Glad it was as easy as promised. Brought our eldest daughter -her first cache, brought the dog - her first cache, brought the grandbaby - his 2nd cache. Baby and dog were 'pooped' - hehe. Pleasant evening for a walk. Took one of the CDs left a gold dollar. Finding this was encouraging - thank you!! Team Durant

Co'ord's were off a little bit. I was at 28' but it was still a pretty easy find. I love this area. Primarily I was after the rio Flamingo TB since I'm going to NJ in a couple of weeks I am planning to plant as many bugs as I can find. I snatched it. Took nothing else although the CD with the Rochester history was very intising but I stopped after work and did not have anything to trade.

With the snow on the ground finding caches is a whole new ball game. I think the one star difficulty becomes a five, and the five star caches now become a ten. LOL
I eventually found the cache and signed the log book as quick as I could , and took Peter Pan TB. I didn't want any of the youngsters close by sledding to see me.

Thanks for the hide!

I found this one right at dusk.

At first I was going to climb right up hill to it but then I looked at the difficulty and realized that that wasn't even close to the right way to approach it.

Once I got back out of the gorge (I was down there for a couple others), I walked right up to it but there were other people around so I signed the log quickly. I hope my log is readable since I wrote it in near dark with no light. I didn't want to alert anyone to what I was doing by using a light.

Apparently I missed Gary earlier today.

Took nothing, left nothing but did enjoy the pics.

Nice easy walk after coming up from the gorge. Once again, Lima Bean found it with those 3 words she loves to yell, "Here it is!" Took one of the Rochester History CD's. I really like to see how things used to look. Will put it back in another cache when I'm done with it so someone else can enjoy it.

This was the third find after two down in the gorge, so the legs were ready for one that didn't need so much work. Particularly appreciated the historical photos since we'd just been to the Lower Falls and old Glen House cache. Was with Geo G and Lima Bean, who found the cache. I was glad that I chose to geocache today instead of rake leaves! Thanks.

Stopped and found the cache on my way into work this morning while there I read a bit of history and snatched Ichiro the TB. It is a beautiful path and great for riding bikes especially from south to north (downhill ).
We will move Ichiro out of town soon.

Thanks for the hide and TB,

Third find at 3:23PM for SueShe and I today (still working on one more, hopefully will finish tomorrow!). A wedding was going on at the park, so we went straight to the cache area and found it quickly. Took the Travel Star, and Cheerios Penny. Left deck of cards and a lei.

Thanks for the successful day of caching.

I found the cache at 08:50 this morning. You did a great job hiding this one too. I stamped your book with my stamp and my book with your stamp. A great sunny morning for a walk in the park.

PS When I searched for this cache a week ago I was lucky enough to see a Kodak Peregrine Falcon. It landed in a tree near the cache. It was carrying its prey.

Beautiful way to do a history lesson!! Loved the photos and the bit of Rochester history as well as the park. We took our ten year old along and he found this one first (his third!!) We've gotta leave him in the car and get a head start or something!! Didn't realize it was a letterbox type so didn't have our stamp with us, but we signed the log book. Thanks!!

I am sure I was in the right location but with the snow cover could not get an exact spot to search. Will without a doubt come back when a bit greener to give this one another go. Nice pathway and scenic over looks though...bring a camera!
