Beautiful Walk

Located just south of Dansville Stony Brook Glen or (Gorge) is a new valley in an ancient landscape. The Gorge trail is .75 of a mile long and passes three major waterfalls. After locating the cache you may wish to return to the parking area via the West Rim Trail. A very nice trail guide is available at the park office where you enter.
This cache contained the M&M Hitch-Hiker Dude at the time of it's posting, please take good care of him.

For what seems like years now I’ve been promising my caching cohort Chicky that we would visit Stony Brook State Park and explore all its beautiful sights and sounds. For whatever reason the plans never came to fruition (okay okay, so I made dozens and dozens of empty promises and finally today I had to pony up…haha). Today we had the day to ourselves and were dedicated to exploring the many nooks and crannies of SBSP, so by mid-morning we were on our way east towards Dansville to see what these several wonderful caches held in store for us.

This cache was a great stop for us as we enjoyed the gorge and the scenery immensely. We did share the trail with others today, but as we approached our zero we were left alone to our own devicies. As we arrived we did a little poking and prodding and in short order we found the well hidden cache.

We checked out the goodies and signed in. While I rehid the cache, Chicky buzzed around taking pictures of the flora that surrounded the cache area. With everything secured, we went back down to the trail and enjoyed the nice hike back to our car in search of more adventures (and celebratory ice cream)! This hide was yet another wonderful stop on our re-introduction to this spectacular and very diverse park – thank you for the cache Rocky!

This was my first find of the day, and it was in a really neat location. I enjoyed the hike up to this one with my wife Sandy and a foreign exchange student (Pete) from Thailand. i spotted it right away and then i made Pete find it. It was his first ever find. The .7 mile hike was so enjoyable, we saw all the waterfalls and enjoyed the canyon so much. I took a money clip and left a Bandanna in exchange. I also left Timothy Tuatara the TB from New Zealand. After we left here we ran into 2 other cachers from around the Jamestown area. This is a really beautiful park. Thanks Rocky for putting a cache here and getting all of us to come here and enjoy this beautiful place. -Paleoman52-

I took the short way in from the top on this one since I was a bit pressed for time today ;-) Finding the cache was easy but it looks like it was moved from its original spot. Thanks for the hunt in this nice park.

Wow! Nice spot, Rocky!
I was the first to find it this year, and it was also my VERY first snow cache. :)
First time I was out caching in about 3 months, what with the FRIGID weather we've been getting.

I knew I was in for it, when I came across a whole hillside covered with downed trees and braches. I stumbled around for about 45 mins, then happened to take another look at the area, and saw the cache sitting under a large branch, about a dozen feet below me, right in the open. :)

Unfortunately, the last people there (cachers or maybe just park visitors), left it kind of in the open, and unlatched, even.
I left a stuffed Taco Bell Chihuahua, took nothing.

I moved it and rehid it about 5 ft north of where I found it sitting, just to get it hidden.

Anyway, thanx for a great find!

The first "Rocky" find of the camping week. We're camping at Sun Valley with several of the grandkids. This is the first outing for three of them and I think at least my 10 year old granddaughter is now hooked. Snagged the Monster travel bug, and we'll be giving him a ride to Virginia. Good hike up the gorge. The pups enjoyed it but they had more fun greeting the other dogs along the way.

The gorge trail is still closed for the season. Took the rim trail - lots of stairs. Dropped off travel bug - Travel Monster 202901 we picked up at Gibsonville Doublet in Letchworth State Park.

March 9th & 68 Degrees!! Incredible day!! Nice cache spot, many possible hidding spots to check out. I took the Travel Bingo game and left a wheresgeorge bill & an 'antique' pencil sharpner. I ran into an ole' Buddy of mine - Marty the Travel Bug. I left him alone hoping someone else can give him a lift to a new cache. Thanks for the hunt.

Mrmeasure and Gofer and our yellow lab Jake found it with little exertion. Coordinates were right on. When I had 2 feet on the Street Pilot, I looked down and saw the ammo can. Took the campground way in, and did a little sliding and tree grabbing to get to the cache. Nice area. Took the Sorry game key chain, and left a read car, a Singapore dollar and a genuine Mr. Measure 6" ruler. Were in and out in about 20 minutes. Will take the falls way in when the weather is nicer and we have more time. On to Mother of Rocky.

I sure worked for this one. Had to find it as it's only .7 mile great circle from my house. Went with my buddy Gary and his young friend Brian on Saterday 26 Jan. Short walk to the cache the way we went in. Two GPS's said we were there. But after more than 2 hours of looking, we gave up. Gary and Brian went back Sunday and found it. So now I really had to find it. Went back Monday, 28 Jan. after work. Only had 15 or 20 minutes of light left. Tryed the new coordinates Rocky gave me, N42 30.766 W077 41.524. He had gone to check on it Sunday after I told him about our no-find and came up with new coordinates with his new 76 Map. Not that it should have made any difference, since everyone else found it with the posted ones. And we had walked all around it on Sunday. Anyway, took about 10 minutes to find. Was starting to get dark and was just standing taking one last look around before leaving when there it was only 5 feet away. What a spot! Didn't have enough light or time to open, read and sign the log, so went back today, 29 Jan., after work. Signed the log, took the CD-R and left a flag. Trouble is I left the cache and was back at the car when I realized I still had the flag in my back pocket. So back to the cache to leave the flag I went. All in all a nice adventure - but isn't that what it's all about?

This was the toughest find of the day. I shearched for more than 45 minutes with good hiding spots all over the place. I was about to give up but then again I wasn't about to be skunked by Rocky. This guy likes backwoods, steep slopes and Rocks. I turned over quite a few rocks.
Took a picture, took a balloon canister and left splash bombs with a bag of toys.
Rocky - My complments. I do like-um tough.

Well The leaders of Delta team forged out on top today. We set to hit south and Stony was on our list. THis was a very nice park. It was our first time there. Anthony was lead with the compass and zoned right in on the hide.. Very tricky spot to be sure. Alot of hikers back and forth.. We did an exchange and logged in at the site and took photo.Fun day at the park.. Wendy & Anthony w/Delta team
