I drive by this location about once a week and this spot has intrigued me for quite a bit. The cache is located on the edge of Tifft Nature Preserve along Tifft Street. No need to worry about the preserve being open as the cache is just off a paved path.

The Tifft Nature Preserve is run by the Buffalo Museum of Science, it is located in the southwest corner of Buffalo, 3 miles from downtown. This 264-acre habitat features walking trails, a 75-acre freshwater cattail marsh, and man-made water bodies, formerly used as shipping canals. Wild plants and animals abound throughout the year. Tifft’s location near the Lake Erie shoreline often attracts over 200 species of birds annually. The cattail marsh teems with life during the summer. Tracks in snow give clues to animal behavior in winter. The Makowski Visitor Center offers visitor services. The Preserve is dedicated to conservation and environmental education. Located in a unique urban setting, formerly called Tifft Farms, named 150 years ago and used as livestock yard, dairy farm, and railroad yard over the years, Tifft now provides valuable habitats for wildlife. Admission is free; donations gratefully accepted. Visitor Highlights include Five miles of nature trails – trail map and rules available at Visitor Center Three boardwalks with viewing blinds in and adjacent to cattail marsh Trails open year around during daylight hours Guided walks— Thursdays 10 am– 12 pm; $$2.00 donation. Official “Important Bird Area” offers outstanding bird watching Fishing at Lake Kirsty Only (Except North Shoreline) Snowshoe rental Discovery Kit Rentals Cross-country skiing permitted, may see live animals also.*

I’m not sure if this “thing” lost its battle to high winds or snow from the October 2006 storm, but none the less it’s kinda neat looking. If you look north the only building you can see is the top floors of One HSBC Center. Looking southwest you can see the eight windmills that just went live early in the summer of 2007. Looking due west are some old grain elevators. For the longest time a very large boat was docked next to them. It was shipped to Asia in late July 2007 to be cut down into scrap.

You are looking for a .30 cal ammo can stocked with the usual goodies. There is a log book, pen and a FTF prize. Please put the cache back exactly as you found it. Enjoy and please be safe. CITO when you can, it could use it.

Grabbed this one this afternoon after getting out of work early. I parked up at the parking area (a park I never knew was there) and took the walk down. After getting to GZ it was fairly obvious where the cache would be and I found it in short order. Getting it was also no problem. However, I probably should not have done this one in my work clothes after the rain we had. Oh well.... Thanks for the hide!

Logging this one nearly 11 months after finding it. This was my first time to Tifft Nature Preserve. Started off going the wrong way to the cache from the parking area, but eventually decided I should take the easy walk. Got to the cache area and began my search on this massive thing. After a little bit of climbing I was able to make the find. TFTC.

Just noticed this posted here on this website. I went out the first day it was active, during lunch hour. It's a pretty cool hide, which I found without too much difficulty. I like the way you don't find out what the hell HTC is until you open the cache. TNLN, TFTC. Oh, and nice to briefly meet you, while you risked your vehicle in traffic. :-)
