"Robin's Thicket" seemed as good a name as any, since I wasn't too sure from the map if this was in "Robin Hood's Arbour" or "Maidenhead Thicket" :-) The lat/lon above is only a short walk from a free National Trust car park, east of the busy A404 and west of Maidenhead. Or you may prefer to park at the Shire Horse Pub on the A4. You should have no problem finding this cache hidden low in the arms of a multi trunked tree. The location is almost visible from an open glade with a seat. You may want to take the cache back to the seat and take your time with it. This cache replaces that originally planted in April 2002 in a less suitable spot and requiring clue tickets. This is an interesting little wilderness - I was struck by one place where moss was growing up small saplings - looked strange. Please take care re-planting the cache box itself and cover it well

I was in the area today and noticed on my maps that there was a NaviCache in the area. I logged on to check it out, and found to my surprise it had been replaced only the day before!

Fortunately I spotted that it had moved :-)

The paths in Maidenhead Thicket appear to be laid out in a pretty much random fashion, and they aren't all well represented even on 25000:1 OS maps. As a consequence I did a fair bit of cross-country work to get to the cache, but get to it I did, and there was really only one place it could be.

I combined this with a few Groundspeak caches and made up a very enjoyable circular walk right round the area.

Many thanks for the cache,

Rgds, Andy

The new, larger cache was planted today. This one does not need clue tickets and is near a very pleasant spot to sit.

Thanks Heffalump. We will visit this area again, maybe this weekend, and check both this very old cache and clue tickets. Maybe the big thing you mentioned got painted in the last 8 years, and the tickets got lost then.

Second time lucky, needed help from Robin. We didn't find the first clue on the very large concret and steel object and were about to give up when Tom found the clue thrown into the bushes!

We cleaned and replaced the clue on the far right of the structure.

The site this clue led us too also had its clue removed and thrown to the ground, we pinned it back under the seat

The hardest job was finding the hollow tree, the GPS kept losing the signal, but we found it in the end, the smallest box we have found, about the size of a bar of soap.

Chris (Lassitude) saw signs of a clue having been removed, and phoned me. I told him to look harder to find another copy of the clue in the same spot - he found one within seconds. I normally plant multiple ticket clues to make geotrasher (or accidental schoolboy finders) work more difficult :-)

13:40 Found cache after a good search. Very well hidden. Had to phone Robin regarding one of the clues along the way that was missing. He put me right on that though. Added and Took nothing as I had nothing small enough to put in. Filled out the log. I was first!
