The "Englemere Pond" Geocache is hidden a short distance from a seat overlooking Englemere Pond. Please hide it again well, on the ground, in rhodos, at the base of a tree. It is in the same spot as the first was planted in October 2001 :-)
This location is certainly not in the same league as Hampton Court or Virginia Water Royal Lake, but it's a pleasant enough little patch of wilderness.
Hundreds of years ago it will have been part of the hunting parks used by Kings staying in Windsor Castle I understand from June's dad, Jack Ponsford, who is now 90 and featured on our Sunninghill page, that Englemere Pond was once full of large carp. I guess the pond was much larger once, since much of it is now reed beds.
Free Parking is available at N 51° 24.468' W 000° 42.311' which is between the Golf Driving Range and the railway bridge on the B3017, joining A329 and A332 just west of Ascot. Note that the entrance is limited to vehicles less than 6'6" high, so camper vans will have a problem - maybe solved by membership of the Golf Club ? :-) When you enter the small car park you will see picnic tables and a sign - which may be worth a read, since it provides information about this wildlife conservation area.

A quick return with Heffalump007. This time the cache was a quick and easy find. Yes, we had looked there, but given the location, the fact that it was dusk and we did not have torches....well, it's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! ;)

Open Log: Unrestricted It's still there ! :-) I just visited it, and I can see that it is undisturbed from where I last left it. Standing at the lat/lon that has been on the site for years, today I must have been about 5 metres from the spot itself. I took another reading form the actual cache location, and that was 0.005 added to both lat and long. i.e. instead of 51 24.48 N 0 42.02 W, it was 51 24.485 N 0 42.025 W - that, on a good day, should take you to within 1 or 2 metres. I could obviously upload a picture I took, or maybe improve the clue. Maybe I will update the page now, with the better lat/lon and a modified clue to say "in rhodos at base of tree". That should be enough - in daylight at least :-)

Open Log: Unrestricted On the 'phone we checked the lat/lon and also confirmed that this was not at the very old spot (from 2001?) next to the lake. However, the log description below does not sound familiar to me, and it seems unlikely that the cache has gone missing so soon, in view of where it was hidden. I can only think that maybe your GPS was not set to WGS84 or wet branches were playing it up. The lat/lon (not changed in years) should have got you to within 5 or 10 yards. We will try and do a visit this weekend, and check it all out. Thankls for the feedback.

Open Log: Unrestricted I cannot believe it is so many years ago that I promised to replace this geocache, after the original spot was disturbed by work. Anyway, today I did, and the new log book has printouts of the old logs from navicache. I was able to plant it in the same spot as before, even though the surroundings have changed over the years.

16:45-We found the primary waypoint very quickly. Got muddy knees getting to it. This led to the location without much difficulty. The co-ords took me straght to it. Spotted the silver disk quickly. Without that disk this would have been trickier.
