Chobham Common is a large area of heather, gorse and dusty trails, between the M3 Motorway and Chobham. The area is popular with dog-walkers, horse riders and model aircraft flyers. The geocache is the usual Lovelock big tupperware box, holding instant camera, toys, etc. Have fun roaming the common - but please keep to the well-trodden paths and respect the wild-life.

It was getting dark by the time I got here, so I didn't have time to walk to the middle of the Common. No matter, the information needed to pinpoint the cache location is readily available without actually going there :-)

So I stopped on my way home from Englemere Pond and had a quick look. And it was quick, as I'm afraid it's not a location I much enjoyed searching. I found several beer cans and bottles in the ivy, along with crisp packets and other rubbish, but the main reason I didn't like it was that it was just too public for my taste. This assumes, of course, that I got the correct location, but I'm pretty sure I did.

That I didn't find it should not be taken as an indication it is missing, it merely reflects that it's not my sort of hiding place.

SPOILERS...

We found the primary site no problem, only there were two "free numbers" and we chose the wrong one first. It would have taken us to the Atlantic Ocean south of Ghana. A bit far. Our mistake was obvious.

Then, as we had not found the pub to park at, we had a very long walk to the secondary site, and searched for a long time but did not find the cache. Quite sad. Don't know if we were just looking in the wrong place, or if it is gone.

I will try emailing Robin to find out what we did wrong. In any case, we got some good exercise and fresh air and sunshine.

Thought this cache was long overdue being checked out, after so many years. Nice walk to the virtual cache - which was still there. Pleasant surprise to find the cache itself, in reasonable condition but for the fact that it was a bit damp inside, including the log book. Saw that a couple of accidental finders had been nice enough to write in the log book and put the cache back. Wrote a few words myself, and took a piccy with the camera. Did not take me as long to walk back to the car this time.

Parked up the top of the common and had a great walk across to the primary location. GPSr took us right to the dot.

Found the number and transcribed the clue, entered the co-ords.

0.83 miles away!

Huh! Too far to trek at this time late on a Sunday afternoon, and then have to get back to the car so we decided not to try.

Mind you on our way home we went to that pub near Gracious Pond for a quick pint, and whilst we were parking the car..........................

Left a yoyo and took a picture and a Legoland Dragon.

Second in the log, but I think the first entry was an accidental find, the finder signed the log and replaced the cache, but, he says, not quite in the same place.

Cache not well hidden at all, so placed further back in the foliage at that point.

Tracked to location with GPS. Spent 20mins or so searching but couldn't find cache - perhaps its been found? More likely that it's still there amongst the heather!
