Your clue is "under spidery roots".

Saint Ann's Hill takes its name from a chapel built around 1334 dedicated to St. Ann. It's original name was Eldebury (Oldbury) Hill with an old fort, and there are traces of old earthen defences on the top. You may have passed this thickly forested hill, not far from the M3/M25 motorway junction, and overlooking Thorpe Amusement Park - and not given it a second glance.

This location is certainly not in the same league as Hampton Court or Windsor Castle, but it is still worth a visit. The nearest pub is "The Golden Grove" at N 51° 23.581 W 000° 31.136 walking distance from the road named St. Anne's Hill, signed to the nature trail park. Free car parking is in the lane at N 51° 23.810 W 000° 31.400

Go through the iron gates and follow the nature trail signs. The path wind around the top of the hill, passing a flat grass area called "The Dell" which has several picnic tables and an impressive upturned tree root.

Further round the hill you will find lookout points - bring your binoculars :-) The best is probably that where there is a beacon, and you can see both Thorpe Park, in the foreground, and Heathrow Airport beyond. Sorry to disappoint you, but the beacon is not so ancient, having been erected in the early 1980's - to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the sighting of The Great Armada as it approached from Spain in 1588. You should have no problem finding the Geocache, which is a moderate sized tupperware box, holding toys and lots of other low cost "goodies".

Found whilst ticking off a few unfound caches on St Anns Hill, including the nearby Opencaching.org.uk and terracaching.com hides.

Cache was well hidden but soon found.

I visited St. Ann's Hill this evening to place a new TerraCache and a new OpenCache. As this attractive little woodland area already has this NaviCache and a couple of Groundspeak caches it is an excellent destination for an hour or two of caching for the discerning cacher who uses a range of different listing sites :-)

Given that it's not very far from where my boat is moored, I'm a bit surprised that I haven't been to find this cache before. But it meant that as well as hiding some caches I also got a find today :-)

Thanks for another nice cache in a pleasant little spot.

I'm not a huge navicacher (I last went out on Xmas Eve with Heffalump007 and Sanvika and we DNFed the lot) but Heff phoned me up asking if I wanted to go out caching, including this one, so I said yes. We took the long route up as the down was a lot gentler in gradient. Cache was on full view so Heff retrieved it and we signed it whilst looking out from the viewpoint. Then he hid it whilst I stood blookcing the muggles view of what he was up to. TFTC and my first Navicache find

Found with figures with no problems but had to rehide it, because as we approached the Gz we were able to spot it the cache from a distance. The views were great thank you Robin for makeing me walk up here, I have never been here before and will be back some time. TFTC

Sorry it took so long for June and I to get round to replacing this old geocache that went missing years ago. But today we managed to find a new spot, very close to the original, and only needing a few yard difference to the lat/lon and the new clue of "under spidery roots". Please make sure it is well hidden again. There are certainly plenty of toys in this one - Robin struck lucky following June around Tesco, and found all those toys like little water-pistols, yo-yo, whistles, little men on parachutes. There are plenty of other things - including a bit of lava rock from mount Etna in Sicily - from one of our holiday trips. We just managed to plant the cache and get the lat/lon before it started tipping down with rain. Happy Caching :-)

Hi Charlie ! - and any others who may be reading this. Sorry I didn't write this log earlier, but June and I visited the site yesterday, saturday, and after a minute or two looking, I decided the cache itself had gone walkies from the small holly bush, on the slope, below the viewpoint the specified number of metres from the lat/lon which is another viewpoint near the beacon - where I'd put the original cache even earlier. On the way back, June and I located an alternative spot, and I hope to return with a replacement cache, complete with a logbook including printouts of logs from navicache.com and geocaching.com. If you are very local, you may wish to look more thoroughly, but you would probably be wasting your time. We also checked our Tweetypie cache, near Bracknell - and I think I DID do the log for that one :-) Sorry again. Robin

Hi Robin and June.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Maybe I got confused by the clue. I didn't look on the slope below the viewpoint. I walked along the path at the top of the hill passing a seat on my way until I was around 190m from it. If it's on the slope below the viewpoint, maybe I should look again before you need to check it out. Do the coordinates denote the cache site?

Decided to look for the cache on the way home from work and, as it was around 5pm, the light wasn't great.

The published coordinates took me straight to the beacon rather than to the cache which surprised me somewhat... so I tried following the clue (i.e Holly, 190m from the beacon). Afraid I couldn't find it. It looks like there has been some tree and brush clearance on either side of the path in the past couple of years so it may well have disappeared although, even at this time of day, there were plenty of people around so I didn't look for too long.

Anyway, I enjoyed the walk.
