The Magna Carta Geocache is hidden within easy walking distance of the monument by the same name. Your clue is "dry but under water".
The Magna Carta Monument is just a few minutes walk from the John F Kennedy Memorial. Both lay on the slopes of the hill overlooking the River Thames at Runnymede - where Magna Carta was signed by King John in 1215. Both have an American connection, since the Magna Carta Monument was erected by the American Bar Association, "to commemorate Magna Carter symbol of freedom under law". The nearest parking is near the river, but there is a free car park near the Air Force Memorial at the very top of the wooded ridge - which is well worth a quiet and thoughtful visit. The car park is at N 51° 26.216' W 000° 34.120' and access is from the village of Englefield Green - follow the brown signs to "Air Force Memorial". Turn right out of the car park, past the public toilets, to the Air Force Memorial on the left. Continue past it and bear left, for the public footpath into the National Trust woodland called Coopers Hill. ![]() |

Open Log: Unrestricted Robin was with Team Sapper, visiting the UK. We started with a visit to Runneymede so Steve could see the Magna Carta and Kennedy memorials - and do this cache planted by Robin. We then went on to Virginia Water Lake to do some more, including the Centenial Pole planted by Sandvika - the cache that is, not the pole :-)

Riding back past this cache today, with a few minutes to spare, so I parked in the NT Car Park and walked over what is familiar ground to me.

Open Log: Unrestricted Hilarious ! :-D At first I thought you might have left the GPS inside the cache. Imagine the pleasure from the next guy to find it ! Of course, it would not be a complete loss, since I'm sure they would swap it for a glow-stick, or wriggly snake, or something :-)

Open Log: Unrestricted It's not usual of me to return to a cache, other than to maintain our own, however I returned to this one today. Why? Well, my GPSr had disappeared and having searched high and low for it I concluded it could only be in one place: at the cache! Fortunately I was correct and of course now Sharky is blaming Penguin and Penguin denies all. On the balance of the evidence, Sharky was on the up-hill side of the cache, Penguin and I were on the downhill side and I found the GPSr hanging from a wooden post on the up-hill side. I think we know who left it there! That's a lesson for all of us when in a hurry - make yourself a few seconds later by taking the time to check that you have everything with you!

Our second cache of Robin's today and the cache was quickly found in just about the only place it could be. Of course, I could not help but remember a certain previous cache I found hidden in a similar position and this mention is probably all it will take for Robin to crack up laughing again :)

Noticed that Robin had replaced this cache recently, and decided to brave the blustery showers and take a walk in the woods.

Open Log: Unrestricted We replaced the cache today - same spot. Imagine our surprise, when after decoding the lat/lon for the nearby geocaching.com cache, we found it was the very same spot that ours had first been planted in September 2001. We moved it a few months later, to where it is now, because our big box was not so easy to hide then. Sorry no camera or fluffy toys in this new cache, but it still has a few swaps for kids.

Open Log: Unrestricted Thanks Andy. My encrypted log gives the game away, but one of us will need to check again to confirm the cache has gone. I'll try and visit soon, with a replacement cache if needed.

I visited Cooper's Hill this afternoon to maintain a Groundspeak Cache and to set a TerraCache. I strongly suspected this cache would be missing because I gave the area a fairly good check out when looking for hiding places for my own caches a year ago, but as I was walking past I gave the location a quick "once over".
