I've just put the cache back in it's original position. The lid is the same, and so is the log book - but now dry. I've also replaced the instant camera, for those who want to take a piccy of themselves. The lid has a crack in the corner, but hopefully not big enough to let water in.

Yes, it was the gnome I investigated first - the real cache was hidden under some autumn leaves and I thought the gnome was the cache until I took the base off and found it empty :-)

I thought the damage to the box didn't really look like chewing, but I couldn't think what else it could be! Never thought of fire!

Certainly not put me off R & J caches though :-)

Sorry Amberel: I do feel silly - with this cache under my nose, and yet it having got into such sorry a state. When I received your log I could not believe your words about the local wildlife having chewed holes in the box, so investigated. The photo here shows you that the only wildlife that could cause this would be a fire-breathing dragon. Then I remembered how this happened: I enthusiastically used fire to burn the bamboo weed that had sprung up in our front garden, thinking it was safe playing a water hose over shrubs and trees. I forgot about the plastic geocache box. Luckily, the farting gnome guarding the box was not damaged - although I had not heard from him in some time - I put this down to water in the electronics. I assume this is the other cache you refer to. I will dry out the contents and replace the box soon, then post an update here. Sorry - I hope this has not put you off our caches.

A quick find, after I had first investigated the dummy cache placed in front of the real one, and found it empty :-)

But when I picked up the real cache, it had obviously been well chewed by the local wildlife, as there were several gaping holes in the side. A couple of pints of water ran out, and through the holes I could see the contents were sopping wet. In the circumstances there didn't seem any point in bothering to open the lid, so I just replaced the cache.

I did ring the bell, but it was a bit too early on a Saturday morning.

Shame about this one, but it is in dire need of some attention. At least it's not far to go!

Our first cache find on Navicache although I did create a n account over a year ago. We were drawn here again by a cybertrail left by Sandvika.

It was of course an easy find and unfortunately we didn't have time during the lunch time dash to say hi.

WE will defintely try some of the others.

The real pleasure was of course to meet Robin with his spontaneous hospitality to invite us in. There followed a most interesting discussion on the way in which geocaching has developed and also of course.

The real pleasure was of course to meet Robin with his spontaneous hospitality to invite us in. There followed a most interesting discussion on the way in which geocaching has developed and also of course to GPS software that was more directly relevant to Heffalump007 with his variety of contemporary GPSr equipment compared to my museum piece.

Robin replaced with a newer, smaller box - guarded by a flatulent gnome. Please do not remove him - he is there to annoy passers-by, including our neighbours :-)

Had a wonderful time in the UK. It is always a pleasure to meet fellow geocachers. Yoy will have to visit Fort Worth so we can return the hospitality!
